Brief

Shah of Shahpori Island stands for Muhammad Azam Shah alias Shah Suja, a son of Aurangzeb, the last Mogul Emperor of India, and Pori stands for Pori Begum, wife of Bahadur Shah alias Shah Badar, another son of Aurangzeb. In a war back in 1689 sons of Aurangzeb were defeated by the forces of Burmese King Sudurma. Bahadur Shah was killed in the battle. Arrested by the Burmese forces a few surviving members of Mogul army including Azam Shah and Pori Banu (wife of the deceased Bahadur Shah) were ordered to board a country boat with all their hands tied from behind.

Having been towed to the mouth of the Naaf River (previously Busitang River) the boat was scuttled by making holes in its bottom drowning all the captives. Azam Shah and Pori Banu who survived miraculously took shelter in this very island which at that ancient time was known as Kuanka Island. After the names of Aurangzeb’s surviving son and daughter-in-law the Kuanka Island later became popular as Shahpori Island. Shahpori Island, though still called as an island, was in fact turned into a peninsula in early 60s by artificial siltation through cross-damming.

How to go

This place is located in Teknaf. After reaching in Cox’s Bazar district, take local buses to reach Teknaf Upazila. From Teknaf, you can hire motor bike to reach this magnificent island.

Dublar Char Island is renowned for catching and processing fish in our country. It is also famous for Rash Mela and holy bath, a Hindu festival that carries rituals since 200 years back. It is believed by Hindus that the Rash event is the 'get-together' of Radha and Lord Krishna. For celebrating this assemblage many people arrive here from different part of the country.

Tourists from both home and abroad find three-day long yearly ritual exciting. The Island has all the natural beauty of any other places of the world renowned Islands. River Passur flows on west side of the river while on the western side river Shibsha. In addition, this island is known for its beautiful views.

সুন্দরবনের বঙ্গোপসাগরমুখী দক্ষিন সীমান্তে দুবলার চর অবস্থিত। এছাড়া এই স্থানটি কটকার দক্ষিন-পশ্চিমে এবং নীলকমলের দক্ষিন-পূর্বে অবস্থিত। নয়নাভিরাম প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্য ছাড়াও মাছ ধরা এবং শুটকি মাছ প্রক্রিয়াজাতকরনের জন্য দুবলার চরের খ্যাতি রয়েছে। এছাড়া প্রায় ২০০ বছর ধরে পালিত হয়ে আসা রাশমেলা এবং পুণ্যস্নানের জন্যও এই চরের রয়েছে বিশেষ পরিচিতি। হিন্দুরা বিশ্বাস করেন রাশ উৎসবে রাধা এবং দেবতা কৃষ্ণর পুনর্মিলন হয়ে থাকে। দেশের বিভিন্ন স্থান থেকে প্রচুর হিন্দু ধর্মের অবলম্বনকারীরা এই সমাবেশ উৎযাপনের জন্য এসে থাকেন। প্রতিবছর তিনদিনব্যাপী পালিত হওয়া এই ধর্মীয় আয়োজনটি দেশী বিদেশী পর্যটকদের কাছেও বেশ আকর্ষণীয় একটি ঘটনা।

বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন স্থানের নামকরা অন্যান্য স্থানের চাইতে এই চরের প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্য কোন অংশে কম নয়। দুবলার চরের পশ্চিমে পশুর নদী এবং পশ্চিমে শিবসা নদী বয়ে গিয়েছে।

Moheskhali is an Island located by the coast of Cox's Bazar. The area of island is 268 square kilometers. There are beautiful hills in the island. There are temples and Buddhist Pagodas to visit on the island as well as the shrine of Adinath. The fishing villages are good places to see how local fishermen live.

Sonadia Island is a sanctuary for migratory birds such as petrels, snipe, shanks, lapwings, geese and ducks and other waterfowl. According to legend, a ship laden with gold sunk here centuries ago during an attack by Portuguese pirates and an island formed around the shipwreck. It is only seven kilometer from Cox's Bazar and about nine square kilometer in area.

The western side of the island is sandy and different kinds of shells are found on the beach. Off the northern part of the island, there are beds of window pane oysters.

It was once renowned for pink pearls, but more profitable commercial fishing has seen this tradition slowly fade away. During the winter, the fisherman set up camp. And dry their catches of sea fish.

বিভিন্ন অতিথি পাখি এবং জলচর পাখির একটি অভয়ারণ্য হল সোনাদিয়া দ্বীপ। এখানে আসা পাখিদের মধ্যে রয়েছেঃ পেট্রেল, স্নাইপ, শ্যাঙ্ক, তিতির এবং নানা জাতের হাঁস। কথায় আছে যে কয়েকশ বছর পূর্বে পর্তুগীজ জলদস্যুদের হামলায় এখানে একটি স্বর্ণবোঝাই জাহাজ ডুবে যায় এবং পরবর্তীতে জাহাজের ধ্বংসস্তূপকে ঘিরে একটি দ্বীপ জেগে ওঠে। প্রায় নয় বর্গ কিলোমিটার আয়তনের এই দ্বীপটি কক্সবাজার থেকে মাত্র ৭ কিলোমিটার দূরে অবস্থিত।

দ্বীপের পশ্চিম দিকটি বালুময় এবং এখানকার সৈকতে বিভিন্ন ধরনের শামুক পাওয়া যায় এবং উত্তরদিকে প্রচুর ঝিনুক পাওয়া যায়।

একসময় গোলাপি মুক্তার জন্য এই দ্বীপের খ্যাতি ছিল তবে মুনাফালোভী ব্যবসায়ীদের কারনে গোলাপি মুক্তার ঐতিহ্য বিলীন হয়ে গিয়েছে। শীতকালে এখানে জেলেরা ঘাঁটি গাড়ে এবং তাদের ধরা মাছ শুটকি বানানোর জন্য শুকাতে দেয়।
