Brief

Chamchika Mosque is a very old and beautiful mosque which was made by copying chamchika mosque in India. This is near the Khania dighi, also called Khania Dighi Masjid. Chamchika Mosque is located in Shahabazpur Upazila of Chapai Nawabganj.

It is located in Shahabazpur Upazila of Chapai Nawabganj. After reaching the main city, take any local transport like Rickshaw to reach the place.

The major transportation system in this town is the bus service to different districts and towns. The main transportation route is Nawabganj-Rajshahi. The bus transportation service is off three types which are gate-lock, direct and local service. The others bus routes are Nawabganj-Shibganj, Nawabganj-Naogaon, Nawabganj-Nachol, Nawabganj-Rohanpur.

The BRTC bus service serves for the long intra-district route to almost all important districts of Bangladesh. The most important long route is the Nawabganj-Dhaka. This route has ample bus service. There are two bus stoppages. The biggest one is called Chapai Nawabganj Bus Terminal and the other is the Dhaka Bus Terminal. Sona Mosjid-Rajshahi-Sona Mosjid bus Service are on at 7.15am to 5.15pm every 1 hour after.

In the past, the main transport system was based on the water path. The river Padma (Ganges), Mahananda River, Pagla, Moraganga and some beels (marshland) were used for intra-district transport system. The water level went down due to adverse effect of Farakka Barrage on Padma (Ganges) river, and therefore, water transport has lost its popularity. But still rivers are used for transportation of daily goods from different parts of the district. Still the transportation from the villages in western and eastern parts of the district depends on the boat. In the Shibgonj Upazila have a small river name [pagla].

There are limited railway services with Rohanpur and Rajshahi. One of the international rail line passes through the district to Malda, West Bengal, India. There are few services of local train from different stations of Chapai Nawabganj such as Nawabganj Sadar, Amnura, Nachole, Nijampur, Rahanpur to Rajshahi and other parts of Bangladesh and also has a shuttle service from Nawabganj to Rajshahi for the intercity train service from Rajshahi to other part of Bangladesh.

Many people believe that it is a 15^th century architecture which was built by Shah Mokdum(R). There is no inscription found for any date. Shahjadpur mosque stands on the bank of the river Hurasagar at Dargapara, the extreme end of Shahjadpur proper, in the district of Sirajganj. It is not dated by any inscription. Architectural as well as decorative features of the mosque point to its 15th century origin. Its architectural and decorative features indicate that it is of the 15^th century. It has a rectangular multi domed shape. Externally it is 19.13m tall and 12.6m wide and internally it is 15.77m tall and 9.60m wide. Its walls are 1.5m thick. Inside we can find 2 rows made of stone pillars and they carry pointed archways. There are 8 black slag pillars. There are 5 arched entrances in the mosque parallel to the west wall mihrab. There are eight black basalt pillars, square at the base, then octagonal, and having a square capital on the top. The mosque is entered by five impressive arched entrances parallel to the mihrabs in the west wall. There are three blind niches on the south and north sides where the openings would have been. There are two subsidiary mihrabs on the left side of the central mihrab, and one on the right side. The place of another mihrab on the right side of the central mihrab is occupied by the mimbar of the mosque. The plan shows five bays and three aisles, allowing for fifteen uniform domes over the roof. The decoration and roof the mosque is slightly curved which dates back during time of Sultanate period. One Dome Singair Mosque was built by Khan Jahan Ali and his followers in 15th-16th century. The mosque has a single square dome. The measure of each side is 39 feet 6 inches. The mosque is made of brick terracotta designs. Its single wide dome is heavily built. In the typical style of the Khan Jahan Ali, the dome topped with a cambered cornice, supported with thick walls.

The Singair Mosque is across the road from the Shait Gumbaz Mosque, Bagherhat on its southeastern side.Singair mosque is part of the mosque town of Bagherhat, built in the 15th and the 16th century by Khan Jahan Ali and his followers. The mosque is located 3 miles west of the Bagherhat town, opposite to the Shait gumbad mosque. The mosque is square, and has a single dome. Each side measures 39 feet 6 inches. The mosque is of red brick construction with terracotta designs. It has a single wide dome which is heavily built. In the typical style of the Khan Jahan Ali, the dome is supported on thick walls and topped with a cambered cornice.

১৫শ এবং ১৬শ শতকে খান জাহান আলী (রঃ) এবং তাঁর অনুসারীরা এই মসজিদটি নির্মাণ করেন। এই মসজিদে বর্গক্ষেত্রাকার একটি গম্বুজ রয়েছে যেটির প্রতিটি বাহুর মাপ ৩৯ ফুট ৬ ইঞ্চি। ইটের তৈরি ও টেরাকোটার নকশা করা এই মসজিদের একমাত্র প্রশস্ত গম্বুজটি মজবুতভাবে নির্মাণ করা হয়েছে। খান জাহান আলী (রঃ) এর নিজস্ব শৈলী অনুযায়ী মসজিদের গম্বুজের দেয়াল বেশ পুরু এবং গম্বুজের উপর একটি কার্নিশ রয়েছে।

Bandar Shahi Mosque (বন্দর শাহী মসজিদ ) is situated in the Bandar Municipal area. It was built in 1482 AD (886 AH) by Malik Al-Muazzam Baba Saleh, a high official under Sultan Jalaluddin Fateh Shah.

It is a square building measuring 6.20 meter a side in the interior and 9.70 meter in the exterior. It has four octagonal corner towers and a large hemispherical dome supported by two engaged black stone pillars embedded in each wall with square bases, capitals and octagonal shafts. The square inches which hold up the dome spring from the top of these pillars. The dome has a lotus and pitcher finial. The raising of the dome on a drum crowned with merlons seems to be part of Mughal renovations. There are three entrances in the east of which the central one is wider, measuring 2.20 meter high and 1.37 meter wide. The two other entrances each on the south and north sides are 2 meter high and 1 meter wide. The side entrances are of the same size as the front central one. Of the three semi-circular mihrabs, the central one is the largest and the northern mihrab is being used as a closet.

The mosque has been renovated and enlarged by verandas on the east, south and north sides. Shah Mahmud Masjid is an attractive building at Egarosindur may be dated sometime around 1680 AD. The mosque stands at the back of a slightly raised platform, which is enclosed by a low wall with a gateway consists of an oblong structure with do-chala roof. The mosque proper is a square structure, 5.79m a side in the inside, and is emphasized with octagonal towers on the four exteriors angles. All these towers shooting high above the roof and terminating in solid kiosks with cupolas, were originally crowned with kalasa finials, still intact in the southern one. The western wall accommodates inside three mihrab –the central one semi –octagonal and the side ones rectangular. The central doorway and central mihrab are larger than their flanking counterparts. The mosque has four axially projected front ones, each corresponding to the centrally located doorways and the central mihrab. The parapets and cornices are horizontal in the usual Mughal fashion.

All the mihrabs are enriched with terracotta decoration. The mihrabs are arched having cuspings in their outer faces. The pilasters, supporting the mihrab arches, show a series of decorated bands topped by a frieze of petals. The spandrels of these arches, though now plain must have been originally enriched with terracotta plaques. Above the rectangular frame of the central mihrab there is a row of arched-niches filled with varieties of small trees containing flowers. The mosque should specially be noted for its four axially projected frontons with bordering ornamental turrets, a device which must have been borrowed from the four axial iwan-type gateways of the Persian influenced north Indian Mughal standard mosques of Fathpur, Agra and Delhi.

The mosque has a very large dome at the top. Four corners of the mosque are having octagonal columns and the middle of the walls are having eight small columns (each wall two). The Shah Mahmud mosque has stylish terracotta at the eastern wall. Also it has expensive (considering that period) decoration at the top of the walls, columns and mini-minarets.

এগারোসিন্দুর গ্রামে অবস্থিত অন্যতম আকর্ষণীয় এই স্থাপনাটি সম্ভবত ১৬৮০ সালের দিকে নির্মিত হয়েছিল। একটি উঁচু প্লাটফর্মের পেছনে অবস্থিত এই মসজিদটি নিচু দেয়াল দিয়ে ঘেরাও করা হয়েছে। মসজিদে ঢোকার ফটকটি আয়াতক্ষেত্রাকার এবং এটিতে দোচালা ছাদ রয়েছে। ছাদের উপর চার কোণায় অষ্টভুজ চারটি টাওয়ারসহ বর্গাক্ষেত্রাকার এই মসজিদের ভেতরের প্রতিটি দিকের দৈর্ঘ্য ৫.৭৯ মিটার। মসজিদের টাওয়ারগুলোতে ছোট কক্ষ ছিল এবং টাওয়ারগুলো অলংকার দিয়ে সাজানো হয়েছিল। দক্ষিন দিকের টাওয়ারে এখনও সেসব অলংকারের দেখা মেলে। মসজিদের পশ্চিম দেয়ালে তিনটি মিহরাব আছে যেগুলোর মধ্যে মাঝের মিহরাবটি অষ্টভুজ আকারের এবং বাকি পাশের দুটি মিহরাব বর্গক্ষেত্রাকার। মসজিদের মাঝখানের মিহরাব এবং দরজাটি অন্যান্য মিহরাব ও দরজাগুলোর চেয়ে আকারে বড়। মসজিদের প্রাচীর এবং কার্নিশগুলো মুঘল স্থাপত্যের মত সমান্তরাল।

মসজিদের ধনুকাকারের মিহরাবসমূহে টেরাকোটার নকশা করা রয়েছে। মসজিদের মিহরাবের সাথেকার প্রতিটি কলামে পাতা এবং শৃঙ্খলের নকশা রয়েছে এবং ধনুকাকার মিহরাব এবং ছাদের সংযোগস্থলে একসময় টেরাকোটার ফলক ছিল বলে বোঝা যায়। এখানকার মাঝখানের মিহরাবের উপরে বিভিন্ন ফুল সমেত ছোট গাছের নকশা রয়েছে। মসজিদের সম্মুখভাগের চারটি চূড়ার নকশার উত্তর ভারতের ফতেহপুর, আগ্রা এবং দিল্লির মুঘল আমলের মসজিদগুলোর পারস্য নকশার সাথে মিল পাওয়া যায়।

মসজিদের উপরে একটি বিশালাকার গম্বুজ রয়েছে এবং এখানকার পূর্বদিকের দেয়ালে টেরাকোটার কাজ ছাড়াও দেয়ালের উপরে, কলামে এবং মিনি মিনারে সে আমলের ব্যয়বহুল নকশার কাজ রয়েছে।
