Bangladesh Ordnance Factories (BOF), commonly known as Arms Factory, is an integrated and important base for indigenous production of defense equipment and form the backbone of the country’s defense production. It is one of the largest defense industrial complexes under the ministry of Defense, producing conventional arms and ammunition to international standards. It was inaugurated in 1970. BOF is situated about 50 km from Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, at Gazipur Cantonment, a model township with most of the civic amenities available.

Faridpur Sugar Mill is located in Modhukhali of Faridpur district. It was set up by the Government in 1974-78 at a cost of Tk. 144.55 million. The sugar mill started trial production in 1976-77.
Cane crushing capacity of Faridpur Sugar Mills is 1016 M. Tons per day and sugar production capacity is 10,160 M. Tons per annum. Since establishment, the sugar mill has produced 10,427 M. Tons of Sugar per annum on average at an average sugar recovery rate of 7.73% from sugarcane. Highest sugar production was 16,828 M. Tons in 1994-95.

Back in 1997, a devastating accident occurred while the exploration in one of the wells in Magurchara gas field. An unimaginable catastrophe broke out in the 840 meter below of surface level in the said gas field on the 14th June 1997. The explosion cost too much for the environment, it denuded about 700-acre reserved forest, destroyed 10 tea gardens and hampered greatly the lives of numerous workers and tribal people living nearby. Though measures have been taken to improve the conditions, evident to this major accident are still seen in the location of the accident.

{:}{:bn}সুরমা অববাহিকার ওপর অবস্থিত মৌলভীবাজার গ্যাসক্ষেত্রের আওতাধীন হাইড্রকার্বনের মজুদ সমৃদ্ধ একটি জনপদের নাম মাগুরছড়া। মাগুরছড়ার ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত গ্যাসক্ষেত্রটি লাউয়াছড়া জাতীয় উদ্যানের পরেই অবস্থিত। ১৯৯৭ সালের ১৪ই জুন মাগুরছড়া গ্যাসক্ষেত্রে একটি কূপ খননের সময় মারাত্মক দুর্ঘটনা ঘটে এবং এর ফলে মাটির ৮৪০ মিটার গভীরে ভয়াবহ বিপর্যয়ের সৃষ্টি হয়। মানুষের অসাবধানতা এবং অবহেলার কারনে ঘটে যাওয়া দুর্ঘটনার দরুন পরিবেশকে দিতে হয়েছিল চরম মূল্য। এই দুর্ঘটনার কারনে সৃষ্ট অগ্নিকাণ্ডের ফলে প্রায় ৭০০ একর বন, ১০ টি চা বাগান শুধু পুড়ে গেছে তাই নয় পাশাপাশি এসব বনজ সম্পদের উপর নির্ভরশীল অসংখ্য মানুষ, আদিবাসী সম্প্রদায় এবং বনে বসবাসকারি প্রাণীকুলের জীবনেও নেমে এসেছিল চরম বিপর্যয়। দুর্ঘটনার ফলে সৃষ্ট পরিস্থিতির উন্নতির জন্য পদক্ষেপ নেওয়া হলেও আজও এই স্থানটিতে সেই ভয়াবহ দুর্ঘটনার চিহ্ন লক্ষ্য করা যায়।{:}
