Ma thin, a beautiful women, who was a daughter of a Magh king, regularly visited the well with some of her friends. A handsome young Police Officer named Dhiraj Bhattacharya was appointed as the Officer In Charge of that Police station. Dhiraj fell in love with Ma thin at the first sight. Dhiraj proposed Ma thin to marry her but her father was not agreed. Ma thin’s father tried to convince her that she is a Magh girl and a Magh is not suppose to marry out side her community. Ma thin insisted her father to give permission. At last the king was compelled to give his permission realizing his daughter’s condition.
In this stage Dhiraj’s father heard this news which made him angry. As Dhiraj was from a Hindu family, his father announced that he could not marry a Magh girl. Dhiraj’s father ordered him to return to Calcutta. Finding no other way, Dhiraj met with Ma thin and seek her permission to left for Calcutta promising that he would come back very soon.
After waiting for months, Ma thin stopped believing that Dhiraj would ever come back. Ma thin was very shocked and decided not to take any food or even a drop of water until her death . Her parents , friends and relatives tried to convince her but in vain. The story of Ma thin’s love ended with her death, but the well still remains as a memorial.
