Brief

Chhatak Cement Factory, established in 1941, is one of the oldest industrial units in Bangladesh. Chhatak Cement Factory Ltd. manufactures cement. The company was formerly known as Assam Bengal Cement Company Limited. Chhatak Cement Factory Ltd. was founded in 1937 and is based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The company operates as a subsidiary of Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation.

In order to raise production capacity from 1,35,000 tons to 2,33,000 tons, the 2nd phase of the expansion programme has been completed with financing from Asian Development Bank. The Factory uses limestone imported from Meghalaya, India and from its own quarry-Takerghat Limestone Mining Project.

How to go

It is located in Chhatak Upazila of Sunamganj district, Sylhet. It is a 32 km drive from Sylhet. You can take a ride by a CNG auto rickshaw or bus from Sunamganj Sadar Upazila to Chhatak.

You can reach Sunamganj only by road. There is no direct rail, air or water transportation system available.

Around 397 households in Bagatipara are using biogas from Biogas Plant to fulfill their demand. The main purpose of the IMPACT project under the Department of Youth and Sports Ministry, is for youth development and to create employment opportunities for unemployed youth and socio-economic development, this project has been started by properly managing cattle-chicken farm expansion, using farm waste as an alternative fuel for the production of electricity and gas.

The main goal of the IMPACT project is to ensure the use of local resources by featuring innovative management and technical support for rural unemployed youth and vulnerable women by providing skill development training of rural youth and other family members in establishing commercial poultry-cattle farm, to increase production of fruit-vegetables namely meat, eggs, milk, fruits, vegetables, etc. to fulfill the food needs of the country.

In Bangladesh, the first biogas plant was set up by Dr. M A Karim, a professor of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh, in the University campus in 1972. It was a floating dome type plant of 3m3 gas production capacity. Subsequently, seeing the success of the plant, 4-5 more plants were constructed in the surroundings. These plants did not last long due to leakage in the domes.

In 1974, the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (Bard) constructed one biogas plant following the same design. The Institute of Fuel Research and Development (IFRD) constructed another plant in the campus of the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) in 1976, followed by a plant at the KBM College in Dinajpur in 1980.

ইমপ্যাক্ট প্রকল্পের লক্ষ্য: ১। গ্রামের বেকার যুব ও দুঃস্থ মহিলাদেরকে উদ্ভাবনীমূলক ব্যবস্থাপনা ও সমন্বিত কারিগরি সহায়তা প্রদানের মাধ্যমে স্থানীয় সম্পদ ব্যবহার নিশ্চিত করা ; ২। গ্রামীণ যুব ও পরিবারের অন্যান্য সদস্যদেরকে দক্ষতা বৃদ্ধিমূলক প্রশিক্ষণ প্রদানের মাধ্যম্যে পারিবারিক ও বাণিজ্যিক হাঁস-মুরগী-গরু-ছাগলের খামার স্থাপন,ফলজ-শাক সবজি চাষের মাধ্যমে দেশের খাদ্য চাহিদা যথা মাংস,ডিম,দুধ,ফল-শাক সবজি ইত্যাদির উৎপাদন বৃদ্ধি করা ; ৩। দেশজ ব্যবহারযোগ্য কাঁচা মাল চিহ্নিত করে তা কারিগরি প্রযুক্তি প্রয়োগের মাধ্যমে অর্থ সম্পদে রুপান্তর করা ; ৪। গ্রামীণ পরিসরে বিশেষ করে যুব মহিলাদের কর্মসংস্থানের সুযোগ সৃষ্টি করা; ৫। সংসারের দৈনন্দিন কাজের উচ্ছিষ্ট,গরুর গবর,মুরগীর বিষ্ঠা,ইত্যাদি বায়োগ্যাস প্লান্টে ব্যবহার করে,বিকল্প জ্বালানী হিসাবে গ্যাস ও বিদ্যুৎ উৎপাদন করা ;

Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory (BMTF) Ltd. is one of the largest company enterprise of its kind in Bangladesh.The factory has an area of 249.55 acres with a covered area of 60310sq meter. It was commissioned on 11th February 1979. BMTF is a state owned limited company under the management of Bangladesh Army.
