Brief

Dighinala Bon Bihar, a very beautiful serene place is located on the way to Sajek valley. It is just before entering the Dighinala town (if you are coming from Khagrachhari).

This is a place for the Buddhist people. The Buddhist religion is one of the world’s most peaceful religion. People are always calm and quiet, and so does their religious places. This place is free from any crowds. Inside there, most of the people talks in a low voice (or you should say modest).

After entering inside the main premise through the gate, you can find two temples there. One is having a large statue of the Buddha. And the other one is having two statues (local people say this as the statue of Bhante of Rangamati Bihar (ভান্তে, রাঙামাটি বিহার), and who died recently). In between the two temples, there is a small field like place available which is shaded by a medium sized tree.

How to go

This is at the Dighinala Upazila (দীঘিনালা উপজেলা) of Khagrachhari District. And its only 30 Taka per person to come at Dighinala (দীঘিনালা) town using a CNG driven vehicle from the Khagrachhari. GPS coordinate of the Dighinala Bon Bihar (দীঘিনালা বন বিহার) is (23°14’25.20″N, 92° 3’44.04″E).

How To Reach: Khagrachhari District

There are two ways to get in Khagrachari, both by road: Direct from Dhaka via BaroiarHat or from Chittagong. A number of non-stop coach services are available from Dhaka (e.g., Shanti Paribahan, Soudia, S. Alam, Eagle and ShamoliParibahan). Gabtoli, Saidabad, Komolapur and Kolabagan are the bus stand name in Dhaka where you can get bus tickets. Bus fare was about 520 Taka (as of 11-May-2014).

From Chittagong you can get non-AC bus services of BRTC and Shanti Paribahan are most convenient with the fare as cheap as to travel to Khagarachari or the other two hill districts (Rangamati and Bandarban). Oxygen-moor is the bus stand name in Chittagong. But there is no bus service will available after 6 pm.

It is assumed that this Bihar was built in late 8th-9th century AD. It was revealed by conducting excavation very recent years. Bihar is a place being used as a Residential Higher Education Center. How it was discovered: Researchers said, from the very beginning they had conducted nine test excavations at Rampal & Bojrojogini Union Parishad, where they found the evidences of pre-medieval human settlement. At the 9th grid they discovered the existence of a brick wall. Depending on that evidence Archaeologist dug a trench measuring 80×60m. Later they discovered this Buddhist Bihar. What can be seen there: In the south-east corner of that structure there are two diagonal brick walls. One is extended from south to north and another one is extended from east to west. Likewise, the other Buddhist Bihar structure the chamber for Buddhist Monk was built beside main brick wall. In the northern side there are five chambers have been revealed. Near to the western there is a another chamber. Dimension of those chambers are nearly three square meter. The side wall dividing the chambers is also being discovered. Observing the architectural strategy and characteristics, researchers had confirmed this feature as a Buddhist Bihar. Similarity had been found in architectural property and design with the Shompur Bihar (Naogaon), Mahasthangarh (Bogra), Shalbon Bihar ( Comilla) and even with Nalonda Bihar of Patna (India). Aggmeda Khyang Monastery, a magnificent Buddhist monastery, is visited by thousands of Buddhists from the surrounding areas. It consists of a prayer chambers, assembly hall, Buddha images and manuscripts. The main chamber is supported by timber columns. The Aggmeda Khyang Monastery is located by the entrance to the town. The majority of the Buddha images originate from Burma. Aggmeda Khyang Monastery is at the bottom of a hill and is nestled in between trees.

Aggmeda Khyang Monastery is a beautiful place in Cox’s Bazar. It is a large Buddhist Monastery, and a place revered by around 400,000 Buddhist people of Cox’s Bazar and the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Equally lucubrate in plan, elevation and decoration is the Aggameda Khyang near the entrance to the Cox’s Bazar town, which nestles at the foot of a hill under heavy cover of a stand of large trees.

The chief sanctuary-cum-monastery is carried on a series of round timber columns, which apart from accommodating the prayer chamber and an assembly hall, also is the repository of a large of small bronze Buddha images-mostly of Burmese origin– and some old manuscripts. Beyond the main khyang to the south, there is an promoted wooden pavilion and a smaller brick temple with a timber and corrugated metal root. Apart from bearing an inscription in Burmese over its entrance, the temple contains some large stucco and bronze Buddha images.

অপূর্ব সুন্দর বৌদ্ধ বিহার আগহমেদা খিয়াং এ আশেপাশের এলাকা থেকে প্রচুর বৌদ্ধ ধর্মের মানুষেরা এসে থাকেন। এখানে রয়েছে একটি প্রার্থনা কক্ষ, জমায়েত হওয়ার কক্ষ, বৌদ্ধ মূর্তি এবং পাণ্ডূলিপি। বিহারের মূল কক্ষটি বাঁশের উপর ভর করে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে। শহরের প্রবেশমুখেই আগহমেদা খিয়াং অবস্থিত। এখানে অবস্থিত বেশীরভাগ বুদ্ধের প্রতিকৃতি বার্মা থেকে আনা হয়েছে। এই খিয়াংটি পাহাড়ের পাদদেশে গাছগাছালির মধ্যে অবস্থিত।

Jagadbandhu Sree Angan or Sreedham Sree Angan was established by the "Jagadbandhu Shundar" during the "Roth Jatra" festival of "Ashar 1306" of Bengali calendar. The land for the Angan was donated by "Sreeram Sundar" and "Sreeram Kumarmudi". Everyday lots of "bhokto"(devotee) used to visit the place. For them, the Angan has a facility for providing accommodations. It has around 30 rooms that can take 150 devotee. This Angan is a specious area, and there are several prayer hall around it. If you enter the prayer halls, you have to take your shoes off.

Most interesting thing about the Angan premise is, that it was the "Nouka Mandir". Inside the Mandir, a boat is placed. The founder, Jagadbandhu used to go for a jaunt at river Padma with His devotees, and returned during the last part of the night. This is the reason for such name. Beside the Nouka Mandir, there is a "Roth" placed inside a building. The Roth was completely made from wood. This is not looked like a giant one, only a medium one. During the "Roth jatra" at Ashar of Bengali Almanac, this is used to exhibit for the people. This place is calm and relent place, no chaos from the outside life. If you pass some time inside the premise, it will simply please your mind.

বাংলা ১৩০৬ সালের আষাঢ় মাসে রথযাত্রা উৎসবের সময় জগদবন্ধু সুন্দর এই অঙ্গনটি প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন। শ্রীরাম সুন্দর এবং শ্রীরাম কুমারমুদি অঙ্গনের জন্য জমি দান করেন। প্রতিদিন প্রচুর ভক্ত (পুন্যারথী) এখানে আসেন যাদের জন্য অঙ্গনে থাকার ব্যবস্থা রয়েছে। অঙ্গনের ৩০টি কক্ষে প্রায় ১৫০ জন ভক্ত থাকতে পারেন। এই অঙ্গনে প্রার্থনার জন্য বেশকিছু কক্ষ রয়েছে যেখানে আপনাকে খালি পায়ে প্রবেশ করতে হবে। অঙ্গনের অভ্যন্তরে একটি নৌকা মন্দির রয়েছে। এই মন্দিরের অভ্যন্তরে একটি নৌকা রাখা আছে। অঙ্গনের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা জগদবন্ধু ভক্তদের নিয়ে পদ্মা নদীতে প্রমোদবিহারে যেতেন এবং রাতের শেষভাগে ফিরে আসতেন। এই কারনেই নৌকা মন্দিরের এমন নামকরণ করা হয়েছে। নৌকা মন্দির ছাড়াও অঙ্গনে সম্পূর্ণ কাঠের তৈরি মাঝারি আকারের একটি রথ রাখা আছে। বাংলা আষাঢ় মাসে রথ যাত্রার সময় এই রথটি প্রদর্শন করা হয়। অঙ্গনের কোলাহলমুক্ত শান্ত পরিবেশে কিছু সময় কাটালে আপনি মানসিক প্রশান্তি অর্জন করবেন।

Apart from the Natural beauties from the island, the "Buddhist Monastery"(Buddha Bihar) is another tourist spot/attraction in Moheshkhali Island. This monastery is near to the dockyard of the island. The exact location of the monastery is at "Boro Rakhaine Para" at "Gorokghata".

Everyday lots of people used to come at this island to visit the monastery. There are several buildings inside the monastery premises. Also inside the boundary, I have found two pagodas are made from brass (or from bronze). Both of them are similar in structure. Also there are several statue of the Buddha too. One is very large brass statue. The Buddhist people (most from Rakhaine Tribe) used to come at here for their regular prayer.
