Brief

It is located close to the Milk Vita processing zone. Though it is named Nimaichara Badh local people know it as Rautara Badh. During rainy season it almost turns into a sea. After the end of rainy season scattered pulses and Masakali are spread here. They are mainly used as food for cow. During winter farmers feed their cows here. This place was donated by the famous poet Rabindranath Tagore from his Zamider Bari. As a result of Iridhana enactment only grain is being planted. The raw water dam close to the RautaraBadh sweeps all the grain away. As a result it turns into sorrow for farmers.

How to go

It is approximately 127 km away from Dhaka. Jamuna Bridge, the largest bridge of Bangladesh is situated here. Through this bridge it is connected to Dhaka the capital and the eastern part of country with both road and railways. It is a river port also. Besides it has a well-developed connection with northern and southern Bangladesh also.

Largest Irrigation project of Bangladesh is Tista barrage. Tista Barrage situated on Tista River at Duani Union in Hatibandha sub district in Lalmonirhat district. The length of Tista Barrage is 615metre. It’s built with concrete with 44 radial gates. The Barrage has 12,750 cusec discharge ability. This Barrage is mainly used to divert two hundred cusec of water for irrigation by a canal taking off on the right bank side of Tista River.

For producing more crops by providing the irrigation facilities in arable land of north locality of greater Rangpur, Dinajpur, and Bogra district Government of that time in 1937 adopted the plan. The original plan was adopted in 1953. But it was not possible to start. Engineers of the BWDB and experts of BUET jointly reviewed the previous reports and prepared a detailed design. A fresh survey and field investigation was also conducted. Finally the formation of the Tista Barrage started in 1979 and that of the irrigation canals in 1984, and was completed in 1997-1990. President H. M. Ershad officially inaugurated the Tista barrage.

This dam is at the giant river Jamuna. Sariakandi is away from more than one hour bus journey from Bogra town, and the condition of the road is not that much good. But the scenic beauty at the both sides of the road are enchanting. Since it’s a dam area, the water flow of the river was really fierce. This is such a place, where you can try to get back again and again.

Rubber Dam is another beautiful place in Cox’s Bazar. Since Bangladesh has very little rainfall in the winter, the requirement of water for irrigation during the season is met from ground water sources and by conserving a part of the monsoon surface water. To do this, the Local Government Engineering Department in Bangladesh has introduced rubber dams, a cost effective technology that retains and conserves surface water in the river channel, reservoirs and lakes. It has constructed two pilot rubber dams in the Bakkhali River and Idagaon Khal in Cox’s Bazar district that would supply irrigation water to 8,000 hectares for rice cultivation.

রাবারের বাঁধ হল কক্সবাজারের আরেকটি দর্শনীয় স্থান। শীতকালে বাংলাদেশে বৃষ্টিপাত কম হওয়ায় এসময়ে জমি চাষের জন্য পানির চাহিদা পুরন করা হয় ভু গর্ভে জমে থাকা পানি এবং বর্ষাকালে জমানো বৃষ্টির পানি থেকে। এ কারনে বাংলাদেশের স্থানীয় সরকার প্রকৌশল অধিদফতর ভু গর্ভে জমে থাকা পানি বিভিন্ন নদীর চ্যানেল, লেক ও রিজার্ভারে সংরক্ষণের জন্য স্বল্প খরচে একটি প্রযুক্তি চালু করেছে। এই উদ্দেশ্যে কক্সবাজার জেলার বাকখালি নদী এবং ঈদগাঁও খালে পরীক্ষামূলকভাবে দুটি রাবারের বাঁধ নির্মাণ করা হয়েছে যার মাধ্যমে ধান চাষের জন্য প্রায় ৮০০০ হেক্টর জমিতে সেচের পানি সরবরাহ করা হবে।
