Brief

The Shrine of Hazrat Shah Mustafa (Ra) is located in Moulvibazar district of Sylhet division. Moulvibazar is also known as the land of the companion of famous Muslim Saint Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) the great torch bearer of Islam to this region. The Shrine of Hazrat Shah Mustafa (RA) a great companion of the greatest saint Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) is located at Moulvibazar town. Originally, with the advent of a great saint Hazrat Syed Shah Mustafa Sher-E-Sowar Chabukmar Baghdadi (RA) for preaching Islam, this Moulvibazar came to limelight.

Subsequently, in the year 1882, it was declared a Sub-division under the name of “South Sylhet”. Later the Sub-division was renamed after the name of a local Bazar called Moulvibazar. In the year 1984, the then President H. M. Ershad upgraded this Sub-division as a District. The First Deputy Commissioner and the Police Super of the district were Shakir Uddin Ahmed and Mukleshur Rahman respectably.

The famous Muslim Saint, Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) brought Islam to this area hundreds of years ago. The Shrine of Hazrat Shah Mustafa (RA) a companion of the greatest saint Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) is located in Moulvibazar town. Originally, with the advent of a saint Hazrat, Syed Shah Mustafa Sher-E-Sowar Chabukmar Baghdadi (RA) for preaching Islam, Moulvibazar became famous. Moulvibazar got its name from one of the descendants of Hazrat Shah Mustafa, who was preaching there as a Moulavi.

How to go

Moulvibazar is 12.7km away from Srimangal. After reaching Srimangal you have hire a CNG auto rickshaw or bus and head towards Dhaka-Moulvibazar highway.

There are some few islands in the Mighty River Meghna. Locally these islands are called "Char" (চর). From Narsingdi to Chandpur, several chars are seen in the Meghna.

In Narayanganj-Munshiganj area (Sonargaon-Gozaria) there is seen three different islands. Locally they are named Char Balaki (বালাকি), Saydabad (সায়দাবাদ) or Gucchogram (গুচ্ছগ্রাম) and Nuner Tek (নুনের টেক). In Bangla, "tek" means some place isolated by water. Lalpuri Dorbar Sharif Complex is situated at Nuner Tek.

Lalpuri Shah was a preacher of Islam. When he came in this land no one can say exactly. People believe that the man had spiritual power to cure problems or illness. His actual date of demise is still unknown. Followers of him made a dorgah beside his tomb. Recently by the donation of people, a mosque with a tall minaret has made.

The island is isolated. Trawlers commute on scheduled time only on day time. But anyone can visit the place if he is willing to visit sonargaon. Trawlers go there in half an hour interval so anyone can go and after spending 30 minutes can return with the next trawler.

Ramkot or Ramkut is situated in the Rajarkul union of Ramu Pourashova, four kilometers south of Ramu Chowmohony Bus station.

It is one of the most ancient historical sites of the district. Research- scholars unanimously hold the view that it had been one of the northern forts of the kingdom of Arakan from where the governor of Ramu called “Pomaja” in Arkanese dialect ruled south Chittagong over which the Arakanese kings had been holding their sway for about one thousand years. Here in the mediaeval age the Tippera and the Mughal armies fought fierce and sanguinary battles against the Arakanese troops by turns in order to take possession of this fort as well as Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar regions.

It is now mostly known for its age-old shrines of the Buddhists and the Hindus. According to the Hindu mythology, Ram Chandra, the prince of Oudh, came to this place accompanied by his wife Sita while he had been in exile for twelve years and stayed here for some time. Hence, the place is called Ram Kshetra or Ramkut or Ramkot.

রামকোটকে বলা যেতে পারে কক্সবাজার জেলার সবচেয়ে প্রাচীন স্থানগুলোর মধ্যে একটি। গবেষকরা সকলেই একমত হয়েছেন যে আরাকান রাজার প্রায় হাজার বছরের শাসনকালে এই স্থানটি ছিল আরাকান রাজ্যের উত্তরাঞ্চলীয় দুর্গ যেখান থেকে রামুর গভর্নর (যাকে আরকানিজ ভাষায় বলা হত ‘পোমাজা’) দক্ষিন চট্রগ্রাম শাসন করতেন। মধ্যযুগীয় আমলে চট্রগ্রাম এবং কক্সবাজার অঞ্চলের পাশাপাশি এখানকার দুর্গ দখলের জন্য টিপ্পেরা এবং মুঘল বাহিনীর সাথে আরকানিজ বাহিনীর বেশকিছু পৃথক রক্তক্ষয়ী যুদ্ধ সংঘটিত হয়েছিল।

বৌদ্ধ এবং হিন্দুদের প্রাচীন উপাসনালয়ের উপস্থিতির কারনে এই স্থানটি বেশি পরিচিত। হিন্দু শাস্ত্র অনুযায়ী উধের যুবরাজ রামচন্দ্র বারো বছর নির্বাসনে থাকাকালে তাঁর স্ত্রী সীতাসহ এখানে এসে কিছুদিন অবস্থান করেন। একারনেই এই স্থানটিকে বলা হয় রামশেতরা অথবা রামকুট অথবা রামকোট।

From early ages it's very familiar that Munshiganj was a sacred place for Hindu and Buddha religious people. simultaneously, it was also famous for some Muslim religious saint as well. The most ancient mark of Muslim civilization of Vikrampur is the "Tetul Tolar Mazar" (তেতুল তলার মাজার) also known as "Baro Aouliar Mazar"(বারো আওউলিয়ার মাজার) in Boro Keoar village under Munshiganj district.

This place is believed to be a very sacred place from early days. There were about 12 graves divided into two rows. Muslims used to perform various religious practices like Milad, Zikr and recitation from holy Quran at this place. The Mazar was renovated in 1974. A stone was discovered at time of renovation work. The stone was inscribed with names of 12 Muslim clerics. The stone was also marked with "Kalema Tayeba" and "Hizri 421" which means the inscription of the stone dates back to 974 AD.

Munshiganj was then known as Vikrampur. The king of Vikrampur during that time was Maharajadhiraj Sree Chandra. This marks the evidence of prevalence of Muslim community in Boro Keoar village, a place infested by Buddhists mainly. Since the renovatinon in 1974, Tetul Tolar Mazar is now famous as "Baro Aouliar mazar".
