Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Bengali: শাহজালাল বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) also known as SUST is a state supported not-for-profit research university located in Sylhet, Bangladesh. It is also one of the nine PhD granting research universities of Bangladesh.
The university was founded by the Government of Bangladesh according to a university act in 1986 to give special importance in science and technology education. It is the first specialized science & technology university of the country. After SUST, seven more science and technology universities have been established in Bangladesh.
SUST is traditionally known for research and education in the physical sciences and engineering. It is one of the most selective higher learning institutions, and received 40,881 undergraduate applicants for 2012-2013 session—only admitting 1,385, an acceptance rate of 3.39%.
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology was established in 1986. The campus is located in Kumargaon, approximately five kilometers away from the heart of Sylhet City Centre. The university started its academic programme with three departments: physics, chemistry and economics. The first convocation of SUST was held on 29 April 1998 and the second convocation held on 6 December 2007.
SUST is the first university in Bangladesh providing whole campus free Wi-Fi access for students & staffs. The university introduced an integrated honors course for the first time in Bangladesh and it introduced the semester system (American credit system) from the 1996-97 session. According to the masterplan for the university, within a few years Shahjalal University of Science and Technology will be one of the finest institutions of the region.
The university students invented and introduced the paperless 24/7 SMS Based Automated Registration of Admission Test procedure for the first time in Bangladesh. Interested students can complete the registration process through mobile phone messages. The contemporary government launched the system on 13 September 2009. For the invention, the University won an Ambillion Award in a competition of South Asian countries in 2010 and National Award for E-Content and ICT for Development Award 2010. Now, most of the public universities in Bangladesh have adopted this process of registration.

It is located in University Avenue in University Avenue on Sylhet-Sunamganj highway. You have to take CNG auto rickshaw or local bus to Major Tila from the main town.

উপরে উল্ল্যেখিত বাসগুলো প্রতিদিন ভোর ৬:৩০ মিনিট থেকে রাত ১১:৩০ মিনিট পর্যন্ত ঢাকার মালিবাগ রেলগেট, রাজারবাগ এবং সায়েদাবাদ বাসস্ট্যান্ড থেকে সিলেটের পথে ছেড়ে যায়। নন এসি এসব বাসের ভাড়া প্রায় ৫০০/- টাকা এবং এসি বাসের ভাড়া প্রায় ৮০০/- টাকা থেকে ১০০০/- টাকা।
ঢাকা থেকে সিলেটে বাংলাদেশ বিমান, নভো এয়ার, ইউনাইটেড এয়ারওয়েজ এবং রিজেণ্ট এয়ারওয়েজ দ্বিমুখী ফ্লাইট পরিচালনা করে থাকে। এসব বিমান সংস্থার একমুখি পথের ভাড়া পড়বে ৩০০০/- টাকা থেকে ৮০০০/- টাকা পর্যন্ত। প্রতিদিন সকাল থেকে সন্ধ্যা পর্যন্ত প্রায় ১০টির অধিক ফ্লাইট ঢাকা থেকে সিলেটে আসা যাওয়া করে।
ঢাকা থেকে সিলেটের উদ্দেশ্যে জয়ন্তিকা এক্সপ্রেস, পারাবত এক্সপ্রেস এবং উপবন এক্সপ্রেস যথাক্রমে সকাল, দুপুর ও সন্ধ্যায় ছেড়ে যায়। এছাড়া বিকালবেলা নয়া সংযোজিত কালিনী এক্সপ্রেস সিলেটের উদ্দেশ্যে ছেড়ে যায়। রেলপথে সিলেটে পৌছাতে ৭ ঘণ্টা থেকে ৮ ঘণ্টা সময় লাগবে। এসব ট্রেনের ভাড়া পরবে শোভন শ্রেণীর আসনের জন্য ২৯৫/- টাকা এবং তাপানুকুল প্রথম শ্রেণীর আসনের জন্য ৬৭৯/- টাকা।
ট্রেনের যাত্রার সময়সূচী:
১।কালিনী এক্সপ্রেসঃ ঢাকা থেকে ছেড়ে যায় বিকাল ৪ টায়; সিলেটে পৌঁছে রাত ১০:৩০ মিনিটে; বন্ধের দিনঃ শুক্রবার;
২। পারাবত এক্সপ্রেসঃ ঢাকা থেকে ছেড়ে যায় সকাল ৬:৪০ মিনিটে; সিলেটে পৌঁছে দুপুর ১:৩৫ মিনিটে; সিলেট থেকে ছেড়ে যায় দুপুর ৩ টায়; ঢাকায় পৌঁছে রাত ১০:৩০ মিনিটে; বন্ধের দিনঃ মঙ্গলবার;
৩। উপবন এক্সপ্রেসঃ ঢাকা থেকে ছেড়ে যায় রাত৯:৫০ মিনিটে; সিলেটে পৌঁছে ভোর ৫:৩০ মিনিটে; সিলেট থেকে ছেড়ে যায় রাত ১০ টায়; ঢাকায় পৌঁছে ভোর ৫:৩০ মিনিটে; সিলেটে বন্ধের দিন নেই তবে ঢাকায় বন্ধের দিনঃ বুধবার;
৪। জয়ন্তিকা এক্সপ্রেসঃ ঢাকা থেকে ছেড়ে যায় দুপুর ১২ টায়; সিলেটে পৌঁছে রাত ৭:৫০ মিনিটে; সিলেট থেকে ছেড়ে যায় সকাল ৮:২০ মিনিটে; ঢাকায় পৌঁছে বিকাল ৪ টায়; সিলেট ও ঢাকায় ট্রেনটির কোন বন্ধের দিন নেই;
শ্রেণীভেদে এই ট্রেনগুলোর ভাড়া ৭৫/- টাকা থেকে ১০১৮/- টাকা পর্যন্ত।
