Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) was established at Santosh, Tangail in 1999 with a view to provide modern and scientific knowledge through high quality education to the students. Today's MBSTU is the outcome of the dream which had been dreamt by Mawlana Bhashani long ago. The students are educated in such a way, that they would also have knowledge on life history of Mawlana Bhashani and his social & political activities, ethics. In the true spirit of interdisciplinary approach, the students would, therefore, emerge as professionals with a humane outlook towards life.
On 21 November 2002 Prof. Dr. Md. Yusuf Sharif Ahmed Khan had been appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of the university and finally MBSTU started running officially with only two departments -Information and Communication Technology (ICT) & Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) under the first faculty of the university, which is the Faculty of Computer Science & Engineering. MBSTU had started its first academic activities with a total of 83 students and 5 teachers of the CSE faculty on 25 October 2003. After about eight months of academic duration of the university, two new departments were opened - Environmental Science & Resource Management (ESRM) and Criminology & Police Science (CPS) under the second faculty of the university, which is the Faculty of Life Science.

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (বাংলাদেশ প্রকৌশল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়), commonly known as BUET (বুয়েট), is a Public Engineering University in Bangladesh. It is the oldest Engineering institution in the region.
In this institution, every year around 1000 students get enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate programs to study engineering, architecture, and planning. In undergraduate admission test, only about top 17% students can get admitted among 8,000 selected candidates. The total number of teachers are about 500. The University has continued to expand over the last three decades. This includes the construction of new academic buildings, auditorium complex, halls of residence.
"Dhaka Survey School" was established in 1876 as a survey school at Nalgola, in Old Dhaka to train surveyors for the then Government of Bengal of Hindustan. Later, generous grants from Nawab Ahsanullah, a renowned Muslim patron of education and member of the Nawab family of Dhaka, enabled it to expand as a full-fledged engineering school. In recognition of this contribution, the school was renamed to "Ahsanullah School of Engineering". It offered three-year diploma courses in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. It was moved to its present premises in 1912.
After the partition of India in 1947, it was upgraded to "Ahsanullah Engineering College", as a Faculty of Engineering under the University of Dhaka, offering four-year bachelor's course in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical and Metallurgical engineering.
In 1962, it was renamed as East Pakistan University of Engineering and Technology (EPUET). A partnership with the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (renamed Texas A&M University in 1963) was forged, and professors from A&M came to teach and to formulate the curriculum. During this period, EPUET offered courses in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Metallurgical, Chemical engineering and Architecture. After the liberation war of 1971, Bangladesh became independent, and EPUET was renamed to Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
Several more departments to offer graduate and undergraduate courses in different subjects- Water Resources Engineering, Naval architecture & Marine engineering, Industrial & Production Engineering, Petroleum & Mineral Resources Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Glass and Ceramic Engineering- were included in the university at different times. In 2007, BUET celebrated 60 years (1947-2007) of engineering education in Bangladesh by arranging a 6 month long series of programs and events.

Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur (Bengali: ঢাকা প্রকৌশল ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় Ḍhākā Prokoushol Ō Prayukti Bishshobiddalôe) or DUET is one of the reputed public university for the study of engineering in Bangladesh. The university offer four-year Bachelor degrees in Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Textile Engineering and Five-years Bachelor of Architecture. Only the Diploma in Engineering holders can avail themselves of enrolling here for Bachelor Degree in different branches of Engineering and Architecture. It is also one of the nine PhD granting research universities of Bangladesh.
Every year, around 540 students get enrolled in undergraduate programs to study engineering and architecture in this institution. In undergraduate admission test, only about top 10% students can get admitted among 5,000 selected candidates. The total number of teachers is about 300. The University has continued to expand over the last three decades. This includes the construction of new academic buildings, halls of residence.
The University originated in 1980 as College of Engineering at its temporary campus at Tejgaon, Dhaka under the University of Dhaka offering four years ' Bachelor degree in Civil, Electrical and Electronic, Mechanical Engineering 'to help meet the growing need for advanced engineering education in Bangladesh. After a short span of time, College of Engineering is renamed as Dhaka Engineering College (DEC). Then the DEC shifted to its present permanent campus Gazipur City in 1983. DEC was converted to Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT), Dhaka as a degree awarding Institute by the government ordinance in 1986 to find solutions to various problems it had been facing since its inception. The journey of BIT, Dhaka was not also so smooth. It faced many problems and could overcame some of the problems faced by DEC. To alleviate this situation, from September 2003, Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur was created out of BIT, Dhaka. DUET has ultimately turned into an Institution, which can now boost its commitment to quality engineering education and has established a good reputation all over the world for the quality of its graduate.
