Comilla Victoria Government College (কুমিল্লা ভিক্টোরিয়া সরকারি কলেজ) is a college in Comilla, Bangladesh. It is one of the oldest and renowned colleges in Comilla as well as in Chittagong division. The college is located on 29 acres of land including its intermediate and honors section. Landlord of that time, Roy Bahadur Anandra Chandra Roy, established the college on 24 September 1899. Anandra Chandra Roy was a renowned patron of promoting and developing education in the district. He was a contractor by profession and accordingly set aside a large amount of money to establish a college for the development of higher education in Comilla.
Comilla Victoria College was thus born to fulfill his long cherished dream. In recognition of his noble endeavor, the British Government awarded him the title “Roy Bahadur” after the establishment of the college. A white sculpture was built in front of the main gate of intermediate section of the college to keep the memory of Roy Bahadur alive. Queen Victoria was the empress of India from 1876 to 1901. At that time, Comilla was under the rule of the empire, hence the college was named as Comilla Victoria College.
Sattendranath Boshu was the first principal of the college. He was the headmaster of former Comilla Victoria School. He remained the principal of the college until his death. He was a scholar as well as a researcher of literature. He was also a professor of English and was awarded Rabindranath Prize for his outstanding contribution to literature. Prof. Fazlul Karim was the first Muslim teacher of this college in 1937. He later became the Vice Principal of the college in 1958 until his retirement in 1972 when the college was made a government college.
There are 129 teachers in this college against 150 posts. But this small number of teachers is not sufficient address such a huge number of students. The total number of departments of the college stands at 18. The departments are Accounting and Management department of Business faculty, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Zoology, Botany, Mathematics, Statistics of Science faculty and English, Social Science, Social Welfare, History, Islamic History, Political Science, Economics, Philosophy and Arabic of Arts faculty. At present, the college has 15,000 students and 147 teachers, of whom 36 are women.
The college always stands first in Comilla Board on the basis of good result in HSC. Meritorious students try to get admission in this college because of its name and fame. Students of the Honors’ section also do very well in examinations. Most of the time students of this college get top positions in exams held under the national university.
Students of the college regularly take part in debate. They won many prizes from BTV and others debate competitions. Bangladesh National Cadet Core (BNCC), Rover Scouts are also working at the college. Sandhani and Badhon, two leading blood donation organizations of the country, regularly organize blood donation programs on the campus where students and teachers participate voluntarily.
Cultural programs are also organized. Victoria College Chhatra Sangshad played a vital role during the 1952 language movement and the 1962 movement against Ayub Khan. It was also actively involved in the Liberation War of 1971. The Memorial inside the campus commemorating the sacrifice of the freedom fighters who were students of the college.
Many students of Comilla Victoria College joined the Bangladesh liberation war in 1971. At least 334 students participated in the war of whom 35 sacrificed their lives for the noble cause. Major Rafiqul Islam, Saheed Khaza Nizam uddin got the recognition of "Bir Uttom" and Lieutenant Colonel Akbar Hossain, Saheed Abdul Momin got “Bir Protik” respectively who were the students of this college. Advocate Abdul Matin Khosru, Prof. Ali Asraf, AHM Mostafa Kamal (Lotus Kamal), AKM Baha Uddin Baher, who also participated in the war, were students of this college. A memorial has been built inside the campus commemorating the sublime contribution of the these freedom fighters. Comilla Victoria College has five dormitories: four for boys and one for girls. About 1,000 students reside in these dormitories.

2. Abdul Awal Mintoo, passed HSC exam from this institute in 1966 in science group.
3. Kazi Shamsul Hoque, a journalist, editor of weekly Akhon Samoy, New York, USA passed B.A. from this college.
4. Professor Fazlul Halim Chowdhury (1 August 1930–9 April 1996) was the longest-serving (1976–1983) vice-chancellor of Dhaka University. He passed HSC exam from this college in science in 1947.
5. TV presenter Hanif Sanket
6. Rural development propagator and Ramon Magsaysay Award winner Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan was a principal of the college in the 1950s.
7. Abdus Suttar Khan, a Bangladeshi Oxford Scholar and aerospace researcher.
8. Tapesh Chandra Bose (born. 1928 - died. 1985), S/O. Late Satish Chandra Bose,of( Bikrampur, Dacca )Ex- Finance Officer, PWD, Govt. Of Tripura, Vice president Of Biredra Club Agartala, Life Member Tripura Football association, Agartala, Tripura, present residence now at Dimsagar, Kunjaban Road, Agartala, Tripura & Inda Girls School Road, Inda, Kharagpur, Dist. Midnapore, and West Bengal was a student of Victoria College, Comilla, Bangladesh he was a Student of Economics and passed out from this college with highest distinction.

Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Bengali: শাহজালাল বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) also known as SUST is a state supported not-for-profit research university located in Sylhet, Bangladesh. It is also one of the nine PhD granting research universities of Bangladesh.
The university was founded by the Government of Bangladesh according to a university act in 1986 to give special importance in science and technology education. It is the first specialized science & technology university of the country. After SUST, seven more science and technology universities have been established in Bangladesh.
SUST is traditionally known for research and education in the physical sciences and engineering. It is one of the most selective higher learning institutions, and received 40,881 undergraduate applicants for 2012-2013 session—only admitting 1,385, an acceptance rate of 3.39%.
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology was established in 1986. The campus is located in Kumargaon, approximately five kilometers away from the heart of Sylhet City Centre. The university started its academic programme with three departments: physics, chemistry and economics. The first convocation of SUST was held on 29 April 1998 and the second convocation held on 6 December 2007.
SUST is the first university in Bangladesh providing whole campus free Wi-Fi access for students & staffs. The university introduced an integrated honors course for the first time in Bangladesh and it introduced the semester system (American credit system) from the 1996-97 session. According to the masterplan for the university, within a few years Shahjalal University of Science and Technology will be one of the finest institutions of the region.
The university students invented and introduced the paperless 24/7 SMS Based Automated Registration of Admission Test procedure for the first time in Bangladesh. Interested students can complete the registration process through mobile phone messages. The contemporary government launched the system on 13 September 2009. For the invention, the University won an Ambillion Award in a competition of South Asian countries in 2010 and National Award for E-Content and ICT for Development Award 2010. Now, most of the public universities in Bangladesh have adopted this process of registration.
{:}{:bn}শাহজালাল বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় (শাবিপ্রবি) হল বাংলাদেশের সিলেটে অবস্থিত একটি সরকারি অলাভজনক গবেষণা নির্ভর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়। বাংলাদেশে পিএইচডি ডিগ্রী দানকারী ৯ টি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের একটি হল এটি।
বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তির প্রতি গুরুত্ব প্রদানের অংশ হিসেবে বাংলাদেশ সরকার ১৯৮৬ সালে এই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়টি প্রতিষ্ঠা করে। পদার্থ, রসায়ন ও অর্থনীতি বিভাগ নিয়ে যাত্রা শুরু করা এই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রথম ও দ্বিতীয় সমাবর্তন যথাক্রমে ২৯ এপ্রিল ১৯৯৮ এবং ৬ ডিসেম্বর ২০০৭ তারিখে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তিতে বিশেষায়িত দেশের প্রথম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় হল এটি। শাবিপ্রবির পর দেশে আরও সাতটি বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রতিষ্ঠা করা হয়।
পদার্থ বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তির ওপর পড়াশোনা এবং গবেষণা করার সুযোগ প্রদানের কারনে শাবিপ্রবির রয়েছে আলাদা সুনাম। মেধার চুলচেরা বিশ্লেষণ এবং তীব্র প্রতিযোগিতার কারনে এই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে ভর্তি হওয়া খুবই কষ্টসাধ্য। ২০১২-১৩ শিক্ষা বছরে এই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে ভর্তি হতে ইচ্ছুক মোট ৪০,৮৮১ জন দরখাস্তকারীর মধ্যে ১৩৮৫ জন ভর্তির সুযোগ লাভ করে।
বাংলাদেশের প্রথম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় হিসেবে শাবিপ্রবি ছাত্র, কর্মচারীদের জন্য পুরো ক্যাম্পাসে ওয়াইফাই প্রযুক্তি চালু করে। এছাড়াও দেশে প্রথমবারের মত এই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় সমষ্টিগত অনার্স কোর্স চালু করে এবং ১৯৯৬-৭ শিক্ষাবছর থেকে সেমিস্টার পদ্ধতিতে পাঠদান শুরু করে। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মহা পরিকল্পনা অনুযায়ী অচিরেই এই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়টি অত্র অঞ্চলের সেরা বিদ্যাপীঠে পরিনত হবে।
এই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থীরা ভর্তি পরীক্ষার সময় মোবাইল ফোনে এসএমএসের মাধ্যমে স্বয়ংক্রিয়ভাবে নিবন্ধনের প্রক্রিয়া উদ্ভাবন করে। ২০০৯ সালের ১৩ সেপ্টেম্বর তৎকালীন সরকার এই প্রক্রিয়াটি চালু করেন। বর্তমানে বেশীর ভাগ সরকারি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়তেই এই স্বয়ংক্রিয় প্রক্রিয়ায় নিবন্ধন করা হয়ে থাকে। এই উদ্ভাবনের স্বীকৃতিস্বরূপ শাবিপ্রবি ২০১০ সালে দেশে বিদেশে বিভিন্ন পুরস্কার অর্জন করেছে।{:}

[post_content] => Jahangirnagar University is a renowned public university in Bangladesh, located in Savar Upazila, Dhaka. It is the only fully residential university in Bangladesh.
The university stands on the west side of the Asian Highway, popularly known as the Dhaka-Aricha Road, and is 32 kilometers away from the capital. Spread over a land area of 697.56 acres (2.8 km²), the campus surrounded by the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) on the south, and the Savar Cantonment on the northeast, on the north of which is the National Monument (Jatiyo Smriti Soudho) & a large dairy farm on the east. The topography of the land with its gentle rise & plains is shooting to the eye. The water features sprawled around the campus make an excellent habitat for the winter birds that flock in every year in thousands and bird watching here is a favorite pastime for many explorers.
The university was established in 1970 by the government of Pakistan by the Jahangirnagar Muslim University Ordinance, 1970. During the first two years, it operated as a project. Its first Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mafiz Uddin Ahmad (Ph.D in Chemistry, University of Illinois, Chicago) took up office on September 24, 1970. The first group of students, a total of 150, was enrolled in four departments: Economics, Geography, Mathematics and Statistics. Its formal inauguration was delayed until January 12, 1971, when the university was launched by Rear Admiral S. M. Ahsan, the Chancellor. From then to still now 12th January is observed as University day. At the time of starting, its name was Jahangirnagar Muslim University, and the initial plan was to operate this university as like as Aligarh Muslim University. But after the independence of Bangladesh, its name changed as Jahangirnagar University under the act of Jahangirnagar University Act' 1973.
Jahangirnagar University with a dozen residential halls a few more under construction is mandated to provide residential accommodation to each and every students with separate halls for the female students. Each hall has its own administration system headed by a provost and is equipped with facilities like playground, rooms for indoor games, the dining hall etc.
In 2014 the university had a total of 14,500 students, 672 teachers, 206 staffs and 1,200 other employees. There are 35 departments under six faculties.
Jahangirnagar University is culturally vibrant university with number of cultural organizations run by the students and teachers. Some of the well known organizations are-

The university boasts to have the first ever female Vice-Chancellor of any public university in Bangladesh.Dr Farzana Islam, a professor of Anthropology department, was appointed the country’s first-ever female Vice Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University on Sunday, March 2, 2014 for four years.

Natore Moharaja JN High School and College is the oldest institution located at Bongojol (বঙ্গজল) area in Natore Sadar Upazila. This institution was established in 1884 as a high school by Maharaja Jagadindranath Roy (1868-1926) in his ruling era. Later on, it has been declared as a college. It is a boys’ school.
