Brief

Nearly 100 years old Shiv-Kali Temple is situated at Bojrojogini Bazar in Munshiganj District. It was established in 1345 Bengali Year by a local merchant. Few years back the temple was attacked by some extremists and they occurred some damages. The main name plate was hit by a shovel and one of its corner was broken. Now one part of the temple is almost broken but the main part is repaired by the local Hindu community. There was a large shiva lingam was there which was taken by the government and now displayed in the National Museum in Shahbag.

The devotee Chandra Shil said, now the temple will receive some non-government funding to keep it running.

There are several transport is available from Dhaka to Munshiganj. The bus services are “Nayan Paribahan”, “Dighir par Paribahan” and “Dhaka Transport”, all of the buses used to start from “Gulistan” of Dhaka. It will cost you 60-80 taka, and will require 1 hrs to 2 hrs bus journey depending upon the road traffic.

Also you can hire CNG auto rickshaw from the “Postogola”, and it will take you 250-350 to take you at Muktarpur bridge. Remember, if you are hiring CNG, make sure who will provide the toll of the bridge. For you information, the toll fee is 20 taka. So negotiate with the driver of CNG about who will provide the toll.

Where to Stay

Though the district is just beside the Dhaka, still its hard to find a suitable hotel from the district. The main reason, may be people from dhaka used to come this place for a single day trip. But anyway, if you need to stay at Munshiganj town, that case I’ll suggest you to stay at “Hotel Comfort” this one is the best from the town. Also you there is another one which is “Hotel three star international”. But the quality of the rooms of this hotel is not that much good. For both cases, it will take 100-700 taka per night depending upon the room.

Ma Bhaban Mandir is a very traditional temple located 20 km away from Sherpur Upazila. It’s small in size and has some trees planted outside.

Khagrachhari (Bengali: খাগড়াছড়ি) is a district in south-eastern Bangladesh. It is a part of the Chittagong Division and the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Its local name is "Chengmi". Khagrachhari is also known as Phalang Htaung or the Mong Circle (of the rest of the three hill districts Rangamati is the Chakma Circle and Bandarban is the Bohmong Circle). Khagrachhari town is the home town of the Mong Chief (currently King, or Raja, Saching Prue Chowdhury who is the head of the Arakanese descendants living in the circle. It also is the administrative headquarters of Khagrachhari district.

Panchari Shantipur Aranya Kutir - 25 km south from Khagrachhari is peripheral region. The largest Buddha sculpture of Bangladesh (Panchari Brihot Buddha Sculpture) is situated here.

Joy Kalibari Temple, one of the oldest temples in Natore, is located in Natore Sadar Upazila at Lalbazar area. This temple is approximately 300 years old, was built around the beginning of 18th century by Dayaram (দয়ারাম) Roy (1680-1760), the great and influential Dewan of Queen Bhabani (1716-1795) of Natore and the establisher of Dighapatia Royal Family. This temple has 2 buildings. Alongside the main building, in the right, there is a Shiv Mandir. Every weekend, people from all over the district come to this historical and beautiful temple to worship and pay their respects. There are various religious occasions like Durga Puja, Kali Puja etc. which are being celebrated here every year with much pomp and splendor.

Sri Sri Shib Bari Naat Temple is a renowned Shiva Temple in Manikganj Sadar Upazila. It was established in the year 1954. But, it has been renovated in several times. It is not just a single temple but a complex of other features surrounding this temple. Goddess Kali's murti is situated just outside of this temple in a hut. Beside this hut there is a Crematorium adjacent to a lake name Borai Khal (বড়াই খাল). Spiritually this place is very sacred one in Hindu religion. Just at the left side of crematorium there is a pond here, where local people used to have their bath in daytime.

At the time when ORB (Offroad Bangladesh) team visited that temple it was very calm & quiet. Though, it is assumed that at the night time people do worship at this temple using various types of musical instruments.

There is a tin shed house situated inside of this temple, Which is being used as a center of pre religious studies for Hindu religion. A Brahman lives in this house who teaches the children and conduct the worshiping inside the temple.
