Hakaluki Haor is a marsh wetland ecological system of Eastern Bangladesh in an area bordering Assam, India. It is one of Bangladesh's largest and one of Asia's larger marsh wetland resources. Some 190,000 people live in the surrounding Hakaluki Haor area.
Hakaluki Haor was designated an Ecologically Critical Area (ECA). It’s also a protected Ramsar site of international importance for the conservation and sustainable utilization of wetlands.
The surface area of Hakaluki Haor is 181.15 km2, of which 72.46 km2 (40.01%) is within the territory of Barlekha Upazila. The Haor is partly under the jurisdiction of Barlekha Upazila.

{:}{:bn}হাকালুকি হাওড় মূলত মৌলভীবাজার জেলার বড়লেখা উপজেলায় অবস্থিত। ভারতের আসাম সীমান্তবর্তী বাংলাদেশের পূর্ব অংশে অবস্থিত একটি জলাভূমি হল হাকালুকি হাওড়। এটি বাংলাদেশের বৃহত্তম এবং এশিয়ার অন্যতম বৃহৎ জলাভূমি। পরিবেশগত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ এলাকা (ইসিএ) হিসেবে ঘোষিত এই হাওড়ের আশেপাশে প্রায় ১,৯০,০০০ মানুষ বসবাস করেন। জলাভুমির যথাযথ ব্যবহার এবং সংরক্ষণের ওপর গুরুত্বের কারনে এই জলাভূমিটির সুরক্ষার ওপর আন্তর্জাতিকভাবে মনোনিবেশ করা হয়েছে। ১৮১.১৫ কিলোমিটার আয়তনের এই জলাভূমিটির প্রায় ৭২.৪৬ কিলোমিটার অর্থাৎ ৪০.০১% ভাগ বড়লেখা উপজেলায় অবস্থিত।{:}

Mohamaya Irrigation project is the second-largest man made lake constructed in Bangladesh after Kaptai lake, at a cost of BDT 23 crore in Mirsharai Upazila of Chittagong district. Government is also planning to install a 50 kW mini hydroelectric power plant here.

Limestone Lake of Tekerghat is located near the Tanguar Haor, so close to Indian border. Once upon a time there was a limestone quarry, but now-a-days that one is not functioning. The Tekerghat Limestone Lake (টেকেরঘাট চুনাপাথরের লেক) is minimum 18 kilometers north from the Tahirpur town.
The water of the lake is clear. You might the water of the lake would be blue. But still the water isn’t bad. This lake was created by quarrying the limestone. Exactly other side of the lake is India. People from India usually take their bath at that side. Hill of that side has large boulders of limestone, but all belongs to India.
There are few small Tila (টিলা) available in Bangladesh side, possibly 20 ft. height and artificial. You can pass few minutes on those if you like.
{:}{:bn}টাঙ্গুয়ার হাওড়ের কাছে ভারত সীমান্তবর্তী একটি স্থানের নাম টেকেরঘাট। একসময় এখানে একটি চুনাপাথরের খনি থাকলেও বর্তমানে খনিটির কার্যকারিতা আর নেই। তাহিরপুর থেকে অন্তত ১৮ কিলোমিটার উত্তরে টেকেরঘাট চুনাপাথরের লেক অবস্থিত।
টেকেরঘাট চুনাপাথরের লেকের পানি নীল না হলেও বেশ পরিষ্কার। চুনাপাথর খননের ফলে এই লেকটির সৃষ্টি হয়। টেকেরঘাট চুনাপাথরের লেকের অপর প্রান্তে ভারত অবস্থিত হওয়ায় সেখানকার অধিবাসীরা লেকে গোসল করে থাকে। লেকের ভারতীয় অংশের পাহাড়ে চুনা পাথরের বিশাল খণ্ড রয়েছে।
টেকেরঘাট চুনাপাথরের লেকের বাংলাদেশ প্রান্তে প্রায় ২০ ফুট উচ্চতার কয়েকটি কৃত্রিম ছোট টিলা রয়েছে। আপনি চাইলে এসব টিলার উপর উঠে কিছু সময় কাটাতে পারেন।{:}

This district is beautiful enough for any traveler. But the beauty of the lake added another extra ornament. The blue water from the lake will please mind easily. Most of the main infrastructures from Madaripur town was built around the lake. The DC office, police station, and many more government buildings around the lake. The academic name of the lake is "Shokuni Lake", but local people won't be able to recognize the lake by that name. They simply know the lake as "Madaripur Lake".
This large lake has two portion separated by a fishing net. One half is using for fish cultivation. This water tank was built by few hundred years back by a Raja (a king) to ease the water crisis. But now a days this is a great entertainment place for the locals. During the afternoon, it will be hard to get an empty space around the lake. Most of the people from town used to pass some pleasing time with friends here. The sweets from the lake area are famous from Madaripur.

শকুনি লেকের সৌন্দর্য মাদারীপুর জেলার প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্যে বাড়তি মাত্রা যোগ করেছে। লেকের নীল পানি আপনাকে প্রশান্তি দেবে। ডিসিঅফিস, পুলিশ স্টেশন, এবং বিভিন্ন সরকারি স্থাপনাসহ মাদারীপুরের বেশীরভাগ স্থাপনাই এই লেকের আশেপাশে নির্মাণ করা হয়। বইপত্রে এই লেকটির নাম ‘শকুনি লেক’ হলেও স্থানীয়রা এটিকে ‘মাদারীপুর লেক’ হিসেবে চেনে। একটি মাছ ধরার জাল দিয়ে এই বিশাল লেকটিকে দুই ভাগে বিভক্ত করা হয়েছে যার একটি অংশে মাছ চাষ করা হয়। কয়েকশত বছর পূর্বে জনৈক রাজা পানির সংকট নিরসনে এই লেকটি খনন করেন। বর্তমানে এই লেকটি একটি বিনোদনকেন্দ্রে পরিনত হয়েছে। বিকালবেলা এই লেকে এতটাই জনসমাগম হয় যে এখানে কোন খালি জায়গা পাওয়া দুষ্কর হয়ে ওঠে। শহরের বেশিরভাগ মানুষ পরিবার পরিজন ও বন্ধুবান্ধব নিয়ে এখানে আসেন অবসর সময় কাটাতে। লেকের আশেপাশে সুস্বাদু মিষ্টি পাওয়া যায়। এসব মিষ্টির জন্য মাদারীপুর জেলার সুখ্যাতি রয়েছে।
