Brief

Varatkhali Kastho Mandir (ভরতখালী কাষ্ঠ মন্দির) is one of the most common Tirthasthan of Hindu community. It was built around two hundred years ago by Ramonikanto Ray Zamindar (রমনীকান্ত রায় জমিদার). There is a folktale that a pieces of timber had been found in Ghagot (ঘাঘট) river. Someone had collected the timber and when he hit it with an axe, the timber was bleeding out. That night, Zamindar Ramonikanto had dreamed someone saying, “I have come to your ghat, worship me with Eligible reception” (আমি তোর ঘাটে এসেছি,আমাকে যোগ্য সমাদর করে পূজা কর).

By the next day, the Zamindar ordered a craftsman(কারিগর) to make the timber into a sculpture as a Mandir. At the bottom of the sclupture, a Banian tree had been created. That is why it is called Kastho Mandir. Every year in the month of Boishakh, a beautiful crowded fair is held here.

How to go

First you have to go to Gaibandha. Then just take a CNG to go to Varatkhali Kastho Mandir. From Gaibandha to Varatkhali you have to pay just 60 taka.

Nearly 100 years old Shiv-Kali Temple is situated at Bojrojogini Bazar in Munshiganj District. It was established in 1345 Bengali Year by a local merchant. Few years back the temple was attacked by some extremists and they occurred some damages. The main name plate was hit by a shovel and one of its corner was broken. Now one part of the temple is almost broken but the main part is repaired by the local Hindu community. There was a large shiva lingam was there which was taken by the government and now displayed in the National Museum in Shahbag.

Ram Thakur was a Hindu saint from Bengal, who had followers mostly from East Bengal; now Bangladesh and Tripura. He worked among people of various castes and faiths. He is also known as Shri Koibolyonath to his followers. He was born in the Bramhin Bidyalankar family at Dingamanik(Naria), in Shariatpur district, Bangladesh, on 2 February 1860 to father Radhamadhab Chakrabarty and mother Kamala Devi. Ram Sadhur Asram was named by Ram Thakur. It is the most favorite Hindu Structure in Shariatpur.

রামঠাকুর ছিলেন বাংলার একজন হিন্দু সাধক। তাঁর বেশীরভাগ ভক্তই ছিল পূর্ব বাংলায় (বর্তমান বাংলাদেশ ও ত্রিপুরা)। বিভিন্ন বিশ্বাস এবং ধর্মের মানুষদের মধ্যে বিচরণ করেছেন তিনি। ভক্তদের রামঠাকুর পরিচিত ছিলেন শ্রী কৈবলযোনাথ নামে। ১৮৬০ সালের ২রা ফেব্রুয়ারি বর্তমান শরীয়তপুর জেলার ডিঙ্গামানিক (বর্তমান নড়িয়া উপজেলা)নামক স্থানে ব্রাহ্মিন বিদ্যালঙ্কার পরিবারে জন্মগ্রহন করেন রামঠাকুর। তাঁর পিতার নাম ছিল রাধামাধব চক্রবর্তী এবং মাতার নাম ছিল কমলা দেবী। রামসাধুর আশ্রমের নামকরন করা হয়েছে রামঠাকুরের নামে। এই আশ্রমটি শরীয়তপুর জেলার সর্বাধিক জনপ্রিয় হিন্দু স্থাপনা।

Naldanga Temple Complex was build in 1656 by Maharaj Indranarayan Debroy. The total number of temples amounts to six. The then government rebuilt those, but were destroyed due to riots. Rebuilding process is still being carried on.

খুলনা বিভাগের ঝিনাইদহ জেলার কালীগঞ্জ উপজেলায় নলডাঙ্গা মন্দির কমপ্লেক্স অবস্থিত। ১৬৫৬ সালে মহারাজ ইন্দ্রানারায়ণ দেব রায় এই মন্দির কমপ্লেক্সটি নির্মাণ করেন। এই কমপ্লেক্সে মোট মন্দিরের সংখ্যা ছয়টি। সরকার এখানকার মন্দিরগুলো পুনঃনির্মাণ করলেও সেগুলো দাঙ্গার কারনে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়। বর্তমানে এই কমপ্লেক্সে পুনঃনির্মাণ কার্যক্রম অব্যাহত রয়েছে। এখানে অবস্থিত দেবতা কালীর মূর্তিটি ভারতের বেনারাস থেকে আনা হয়েছে।

Jagannath Dev Mandir is one of the ancient temples in Comilla district. King of Tripura built it. It was named 'Moharaja Radha Kishor Manikuo Bahadur' during the 16th century. The gods Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra were worshiped here. Initially, the statue of gods were at Tripura temple but later it was been shifted here. Wikipedia mentioned this as Saptratna Mandir, where as the travel book writer Mustafiz Mamun has introduced this as Sotero Rotno Mandir (সতের রত্নের মন্দির). There might be a state of confusion regarding the name, but this temple is unique considering the other temples from Bangladesh.

The deities of Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra were originally installed in a temple in Tripura from where they were subsequently shifted to this temple. The terracotta brick work of the temple is in the typical Bengal style of temple architecture. Jagannath Temple is one of the oldest temples of Comilla district. It is located two km East from Comilla town, on East Bibirbazar Road, Comilla. (5km east from Comilla dist.)

This four storied, conical shaped temple is a brick built structure, constructed on a concrete octagonal base-stone. This is the only octagonal based and shaped temple of Bangladesh, and one of its type. External wall of every floor looks like octagons and were ascended like inverted Cone. It is a single spire Temple. I believe there were so many artistic terracotta all over this Mandir , from Top to bottom. I find some of the traditional Bengal design on the outside wall of third floor- a terracotta of flower, leaves and petals. Department of Archaeology renovated outside portions of Ground and first floor. Terracotta of these two floors was ruined.

There is a rumor about this ordinary looking spiritual place. Some believes there are two more floors underground, which is filled by sedimentation from Gumti River over the years. I feel this is a weak and bogus point.

This 16th Century edifice is almost 60 feet tall. There is a tank to the West of Temple premises. That Tank could be as old as the temple. The tank is also sketched in 1863 drawing [a British Library Collecton].
