[post_content] => The need for an open university in Bangladesh was felt long ago. The history of distance education in Bangladesh dates back to 1956, when the Education Directorate was assigned with the responsibility for distribution of 200 radio receivers to educational institutions. This led to the creation of an Audio-Visual Cell, which was upgraded to Audio-Visual Education Centre in 1962. No further progress in distance education was made till 1971.
After Independence, Bangladesh faced the challenge of meeting the educational needs of mass people. To meet this challenge the necessity for a new mode of education was widely felt. As a sequel to that feeling, the School Broadcasting Pilot Project was launched in 1978. The project was transformed into National Institute of Educational Media and Technology (NIEMT) in 1983. NIEMT was later replaced by the Bangladesh Institute of Distance Education (BIDE) in 1985. Apart from producing audio-visual materials, BIDE offered the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) program in distance mode. The success of BIDE encouraged policymakers to take up a major plan for establishing an open university. The plan became a reality in October 1992 when the Bangladesh Open University Act 1992 was passed in the Parliament.

Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) was established at Santosh, Tangail in 1999 with a view to provide modern and scientific knowledge through high quality education to the students. Today's MBSTU is the outcome of the dream which had been dreamt by Mawlana Bhashani long ago. The students are educated in such a way, that they would also have knowledge on life history of Mawlana Bhashani and his social & political activities, ethics. In the true spirit of interdisciplinary approach, the students would, therefore, emerge as professionals with a humane outlook towards life.
On 21 November 2002 Prof. Dr. Md. Yusuf Sharif Ahmed Khan had been appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of the university and finally MBSTU started running officially with only two departments -Information and Communication Technology (ICT) & Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) under the first faculty of the university, which is the Faculty of Computer Science & Engineering. MBSTU had started its first academic activities with a total of 83 students and 5 teachers of the CSE faculty on 25 October 2003. After about eight months of academic duration of the university, two new departments were opened - Environmental Science & Resource Management (ESRM) and Criminology & Police Science (CPS) under the second faculty of the university, which is the Faculty of Life Science.
In the 2005-2006 academic session, three more departments were opened. These newly added departments were - Textile Engineering (TE), under the Faculty of Computer Science & Engineering and Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering (BGE), Food Technology & Nutritional Science (FTNS), under the Faculty of Life Science.In the 2010-2011 academic session, four more departments were added under the two newly opened faculties - the Faculty of Business Studies and the Faculty of General Science. These departments were, Bachelor of Business Administration, under the Faculty of Business Studies; Mathematics and Statistics, Chemistry & Physics, under the Faculty of General Science.
At present the university holds a total of about 2000 students and is making its way towards success and glory.

B M College is one of the renowned Historical college of Beautiful Bangladesh. It is located in the town of Barisal in South-Western Bangladesh. B M College originated from Brajamohan School, which was established in Barisal district of Bangladesh in 1884.
Brojomohun College often known as B M College, B M University College. Romesh Chandra Dutta, then district magistrate of Barisal, motivated Aswini Kumar Dutta to establish the school. It was named after his father Brajamohan Dutta. The school started functioning as a second grade college with the introduction of F A classes in 1889. In 1898, it was upgraded to a first grade degree college.

বাংলাদেশের অন্যতম স্বনামধন্য ঐতিহাসিক কলেজ হল এই বিএম কলেজ। ১৮৮৪ সালে বরিশাল জেলায় স্থাপিত ব্রজমোহন স্কুল থেকে এই কলেজের উৎপত্তি যেটি বিএম কলেজ এবং বিএম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় কলেজ নামেও পরিচিত। বরিশালের তৎকালীন জেলা ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট রমেশ চন্দ্র দত্ত এই স্কুলটি প্রতিষ্ঠা করতে আশ্বিনী কুমার দত্তকে উৎসাহিত করেন এবং স্কুলটি তাঁর বাবার নামে নামকরন করা হয়। ১৮৮৯ সালে এফ এ ক্লাস চালু করার মাধ্যমে স্কুলটি দ্বিতীয় শ্রেণীর কলেজ হিসেবে যাত্রা শুরু করলেও সে বছরই এটিকে প্রথম শ্রেণীর কলেজ হিসেবে মর্যাদা দেওয়া হয়।

The Islamic University of Technology (IUT) is a premier engineering institute situated at the outskirts of Dhaka City. Established in 1981, this institute first opened its freshly minted gates to students in 1988. Since then the University has enjoyed an ever growing stature, and now it stands as one of the very best in the country. Its campus is an architectural feat that blends both Islamic influences and modern inspirations. It is affectionately called “Red Heaven”, owing to the consistent reds that dye its buildings.
The Islamic University of Technology is one of Bangladesh’s only two international universities, run and funded by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
