Brief

The great “Rajaram Mandir” which is located at the Khalia village from Tekerhat, Madaripur. If you are from Dhaka, then Tekerhat will be before the Madaripur town. Or if you are Madaripur, then it will be beside the Dhaka highway. Tekerhat is a landmark from Madaripur, actually this is under the Rajoir Upazila. Also for your information, the temple is near the “Peace Center” of Khalia. If you find it’s hard to locate the temple, then just ask people nearby about the Old Temple around. They can show you the path.

This is a two stored temple, and Bangladesh government taken control of this and promulgate this as the Archaeological heritage of the country. It’s not known when the temple was built. From the name, its easily guess that, it was built by someone rich person Rajaram. This lovely temple has noticeable number of terracotta on the wall and the pillar. The experts used to say the images from the temple actually depict some portion of the Mahabharat and Ramayan. If you are an archaeological heritage lover, then it’s a must visit place for you.

We suggest travelers to hire a rickshaw van of take a ride. They can also use CNG to explore the Madaripur. From the Tekerhat bus stoppage, its only 5 taka rickshaw fair.

To go Madaripur Start journey from Dhaka to Mawa Ghat. BRTC, Procesta, Elish, Gungun, Ajmeri bus service are available Dhaka to Mawa Ghat. BRTC bus terminal is Gulistan and fair is 70/-, Procesta bus terminal are Uttora & Rampur and fair 100/-,Elish, Gungun, Ajmari bus terminal is Jatrabari and fair is 80/-. From Mawa Ghat use ferry, sea boat, troler or launce to go Kawrakandi or Majhikandi. . From Kawrakandi or Majhikandi local bus are available to go Madaripur. If you want you can take taxi to go Madaripur.

Madhnagar Rath Bari (মাধনগর রথবাড়ী) is the largest and oldest Rath Bari of this subcontinent. In 1867, the famous Zamindar Zamini Sundori Bosak of Dilalpur area in Pabna, established this Rath (Chariot in English). The owner of the Rath was the then Zamindar of Natore, Shoilobala (শৈলবালা) and Kalidashi (কালীদাসী). Once upon a time, each year according to the lunar, in the Bengali month of Ashar (আষাঢ়), people celebrated Chariot fare and rituals here. The Zamindars of Birakutsa (বীরকুৎসা) and Goyalkandi (গোয়ালকান্দি) used to send their elephants to take part and work in this Chariot. The landlord Zamini Sundori of Dilalpur in Pabna used to send all the expenses.

Since 1867 until 1947, she carried all the costs. After the partition, it had been dysfunctional. From the year 2012, the Chariot has been started again by the local community, and started rituals again. There are currently 15 acres of land in the name of the Chariot. Pintu Odhikari is responsible for maintaining the whole rituals and maintenances of Rath Bari. There is a Mandir just near to the Rath Bari where the locals perform their rituals.

মাধনগর রথ বাড়ী উপমহাদেশের বৃহৎ ও প্রাচীনতম। ১৮৬৭ সালে পাবনার দিলালপুরের জমিদার যামিনী সুন্দরী বসাক এই রথটি প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছেন। রথের মালিকানায় ছিলেন নাটোরের জমিদার শৈলবালা ও কালিদাসী। প্রতি বছর আষাঢ় মাসের তিথি অনুসারে এখানে মাস ব্যাপী রথের মেলা ও পুঁজা অর্চনা হত। বীরকুৎসা ও গোয়ালকান্দির জমিদারের হাতি এসে রথ যাত্রায় অংশ নিত এবং রথ টানার কাজ করতো। এখানকার যাবতীয় খরচ পাবনার দিলালপুরের জমিদার যামিনী সুন্দরী স্টেট থেকে আসতো।

১৮৬৭ সাল থেকে ১৯৪৭ সাল পর্যন্ত যামিনী সুন্দরী বসাক এই ব্যায় ভার বহন করেছেন। দেশ বিভাগের পর আর কোন অনুষ্ঠান হয়নি। ২০১২ সাল থেকে স্থানীয় হিন্দু-মুসলিম মিলে আবারও রথের মেলা ও হিন্দু সম্প্রদায়ের পূঁজা অর্চনা শুরু হয়। রথের নামে বর্তমানে ১৫ বিঘা জমি আছে। রথটি রক্ষণাবেক্ষন, পূঁজা অর্চনা করছেন পিন্টু অধিকারী।

The place is famous for the annual fair held in the month of Phalgun according to the Bengali Calendar. The fair takes place at the foot of the Mainak Hill and lasts for 13 days. Thousands of Hindus participate here from all over Bangladesh.

Adinath Temple is located on the summit of the Mainak Hill on Maheshkhali Island off the coast of Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, is dedicated to the Hindu God, Shiva, who is worshiped as Adinath.

The Adinath temple clearly shows in its construction the association of the Natha community. The temple is 6 m high and measures 10.5 m × 9.75 m; the inner walls are 1.05 m thick, while outer walls are 0.60 m thick. There are three parts; the northern part, which is older, contains two square rooms (3.35 m each side) for worship – the eastern one has the image of Adinatha Banalinga Shiva and the western one has the image of eight-armed Durga (Idol).

There is no authentic proof to connect Gorakhghata or the temple with Goraksanatha, the guru of the Natha community. It may be that one of the disciples of Goraksanatha may have named the ghat at Maheshkhali after the guru. Natha philosophy evolved out of the long association of the Saivites with the Buddhists and in the 10th-11th centuries emerged Tantric Shastras. Adinatha (variants Matsyendranatha or Minanatha) emerged through this process of evolution. Nathism represents the folk religion of Bengal based on mantra-tantra and asceticism.

The entrance is bow-shaped, while the entrances on the northern and southern sides have been closed with brickwork. There are two windows, one on the east and the other on the west side. The two rooms are covered with domes on pendentives. The finials on top are decorated with lotus, kalasa and chakra. The tops of the octagonal pillars have kalasa and twined scrolls. The top of the arch on the western side has floral and the eastern one has trixul decoration. There are two niches on the southern wall. The second and third parts of the temple are recent additions.

At Golapganj village about six kilometer distance of Dinajpur District head quarter there has an old temple name "Twin temple" locally known as "Jora Mandir". It records that the Jora Mandir was established by Raja Ramnath (1722-1752) in 1676 Shaka era (1754 AD). Now it almost in ruins cause of no care. If you go there you will find 2 Mandir (Temple). Distance between two Temple 100 meters. One of the two is a 25 ratna twelve-sided structure, while the other is a 5 ratna quadrangular temple. The vicinity area of the temples are acquired by the local people, and they have built their own houses around the temple. The area of the Mandir are acquired by the local people, and they have establish their own houses side the temple. Thereby causing serious damage to the structures. Both temple are beautiful.
