The original plan was adopted in 1953. But it was not possible to start. Engineers of the BWDB and experts of BUET jointly reviewed the previous reports and prepared a detailed design. A fresh survey and field investigation was also conducted. Finally the formation of the Tista Barrage started in 1979 and that of the irrigation canals in 1984, and was completed in 1997-1990. President H. M. Ershad officially inaugurated the Tista barrage.

Shoshi Lodge (শশী লজ) is located at the center of Mymensingh city which is also known as the Residential Palace of Moharaja Shoshi Kanto Acharya (মহারাজা শশীকান্ত আচার্য). This palace is very close to the river Brahmaputra which is being used as Women Teachers Training College from the year 1952.
According to the history, most of the rulers from Zamindar family have adopted babies in different era and those adopted child ruled the area later. For example Gourikanta(গৌরীকান্ত) was adopted by Roghunondon(রঘুনন্দন). Son of Gourikanta was Shashikanta(শশীকান্ত) and his wife adopted Surjokanta (সূর্য্যকান্ত) as she was childless. Later, Surjokanto became the prominent Zamindar of Mymensingh district. People used to call him as Moharaja(মহারাজা).
Moharaja Surjokanto Acharya was the Zamindar in Mymensingh region for long 41 years. During the reign of his Zamindari he did so many work for social welfare and made a remarkable change in infrastructural development.
He started to build an unique two storied building on an area of nine acre at the end of nineteenth century. Childless Zamindar Surjokanto named after this building in the name of his adopted son Shoshi Kanto Acharya. After completion of construction this building was extensively damaged by a destructive earth quake on the year 1897. Zamindar Surjokanto was immensely worried at this great loss.
Later Zamindar Shoshi Kanto Acharya re-built this building with many additional features in the year 1905 and did more renovation work in 1911. This unique classical architecture and its surrounding will certainly attract a traveler to explore this place recurrently.

Port of Mongla is the second and most Eco friendly port in our country. The Mongla Sea Port is protected by the Sundarbans (the largest mangrove forest- declared as 'World Heritage' in 1997 by the UNESCO). It was formerly located at Chalna, about 11 miles (18 km) upstream on the Pashur River, but it is now located 48 km south of Khulna city, as established on 11 December 1954. The Port is surrounded as well as well protected by the Sundarban mangrove forest. The name Mongla originated from Mongla River presently known as Mongla Nulla. Mongla River originated from Pashur and Rampal is situated beside Pashur.
The anchorage was shifted to Mongla in 1954 as the place could accommodate sea-going vessels with greater draughts. During the Pakistan period, the administration of the port was under a port director, whose main office was at Khulna. Port of Mongla is situated at the confluence of the Pashur River and the Mongla River. It lies about 62 miles (100 km) north of the Bay of Bengal and is connected to the major inland river ports and to the rail terminal at Khulna. It is very near to Sundarbans.
Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) and Haldia in India and Mongla and Chittagong in Bangladesh are the principal seaports on the world's largest Ganges delta. The port has trade links with almost all major ports of the world, although vessels arriving here are mostly from ports of Asia, the Middle East, Australia, Europe and North America and the ships rarely come to Mongla from the countries of Latin America or Africa.

Teesta Railway Bridge is the third largest railway bridge of the country lengths about 2000 feet and constructed in the year 1834.
In 1978, to manage load of road vehicles for Lalmonirhat, Kurigram and beyond by ferry, the then president Ziaur Rahman instructed the Railway and Roads authority to set wooden sleepers in the rail bridge between the rails for all types of vehicular movement. Same year, March 4, President Ziaur Rahman inaugurated the bridge for vehicular movement. The bridge restores the communication from divisional headquarters of Rangpur with two districts, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram.
The bridge is now in broken-down condition and needs major repair. For motor vehicles construction of a road bridge began next to it in 2006 for completion by 2009 at a cost of Tk 1.22 billion which is now expected to be opened in June 2012.
