Brief

Mymensingh (ময়মনসিংহ), situated beside the Brahmaputra river was formerly called as Nasirabad. It is a city in Mymensingh District in central region of Bangladesh. This city is clearly marked by the old Brahmaputra river flowing along its north. Shambhuganj (শম্ভুগঞ্জ) is situated on the other side of the Brahmaputra, connected by the Shambhuganj Bridge. From the very beginning of the urbanization of this city, it was enriched with many features that made this city fulfilled. Bepin Park (বিপিন পার্ক) is one of the well known features among those.

Bepin Park (বিপিন পার্ক) is a common place to go around in Mymensingh City, very close to Brahmaputra River. It is a small park near Bara Bazaar area, built as a recreation center for child, youths and age old people. Sitting in the brick benches inside the park an explorer can get the whole view of Brahmaputra river. From the dawn to dusk it is open for all visitors. This park owns so many rides for kids which has made this park unique from others. Besides, it also has sitting arrangement for public.

To enhance the beauty of city, Bepin Park was first Inaugurated by DC M Sayful Islam on 1st January, 1980. Later, its beauty was developed & Inaugurated by the city Mayor Ikramul Haque Titu. A lot of people come here everyday with Child and senior members for wondering around and refreshment.

How to go

Its easy for the Mymensingh citizen to visit that park; just hire a rickshaw to get there. From Charpara, Maskanda and Kachari area, there are significant numbers of rickshaws and auto-rickshaws moving toward the bridge area via Bara Bazar road. Mymensingh city is located about 120 km (75 mi) north of Dhaka which is the capital of the country. There is no airport in Mymensingh. Dhaka airport is approximately 110 km (4.00 hours drive) from Mymensingh by bus. There are several bus services from Dhaka to Mymensingh. Buses leave from the Mohakhali bus stand (10 km south of Dhaka Airport) in Dhaka to the Mashkanda bus stand in Mymensingh. You can get on any of the following buses from the Mohakhali bus stand in Dhaka, which will cost around Tk. 350 ($4):

1. Shoukhin
2. Ena
3. SEPL

There are several train services from Dhaka to Mymensingh. It takes almost 3 hours to reach Mymensingh from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. You can get on from the Dhaka Airport or you could go to the main train station-Komlapur Rail Station.

The main bus terminal is Mahstandar bus station, 3km from the Station Rd Circle. Between 6am and 6pm you can get a bus to a zillion places including Tangail (Tk 80, 2½ hours), Madhupur (Tk 40, 45 minutes), Dhaka (Tk 80, 4½ hours) and Bogra (Tk 140, 4½ hours).

The bus stand for Haluaghat and other destinations on the other side of the Brahmaputra River is, logically, at the bridge. Buses to Haluaghat (Tk 45, 1½ hours) leave regularly between 8am and 7pm.

Every day from the capital Dhaka to Mymensingh, a total of 7 mail trains comes in till 11:00 am. Four of the seven are intercity express train, others are local. These trains come to Mymensingh through to Tongi-gaffargaon from Dhaka. 3 out of 4 go to Tarakandi and 1 go to Dhaka-mohanganj. Per day 3 local train arrives at Mymensingh from Dhaka. 1 in 3 of the local trains come to Mymensingh via Bhairab-Kisorganj-gauripur, the other two comes Mymensingh via gaffargaon.

Nuhash Polli was founded in 1997. Initially it covered 22 bigha of land. Now it covers around 40 bigha. Actor Dr. Ejaz helped procure the land. The heavenly 'village' was named after Nuhash, Humayun Ahmed and Gultekin Khan's (his first wife) son. Ahmed was very fond of music. He loved to live amidst nature and relished the date plantation, which he had set up inside Nuhash Polli.

Most paths in Pirozali (পিরুজালী) village, under Mirzapur union of Gazipur Sadar Upazila, are lined with thick Shal (শাল) forest. One path with its beautiful play of light and shadow, welcomes passers-by, leading them towards Nuhash Polli, 25 km from Gazipur Sadar. This was the heaven of Humayun Ahmed, a magician of words, who spent most of his time there after he started directing TV plays and films. Nuhash Polli was open to the public and visitors would traverse great distances to get a view of the picturesque estate.

There is a dighi (big pond) at the extreme north end of Nuhash Polli. A wooden bridge has been constructed over the pond. A tent was placed on an artificial island in the middle of the pond. Humayun Ahmed's wife, Meher Afroz Shaon, conceived a daughter who died before seeing the light of day. Ahmed called her Leelaboti, after whom the pond was named. Ahmed also wrote a multi-volume novel called “Leelaboti”.

A building called 'Bhutbilash' was constructed adjacent to the pond while Ahmed was receiving treatment in USA. The last time he visited Nuhash Polli, inaugurated 'Bhutbilash', hoping to behold a 'ghost', seated by the veranda of 'Bhutbilash' at midnight.

Nuhash Polli houses a large number of sculptures crafted by local sculptor Asaduzzaman Khan. Spectators cannot but be impressed by a sculpture, 'Ma O Shishu' (mother and child) at the entrance to Nuhash Polli. Ghost- shaped and frog-like sculptures have been made to amuse children. A tree house is a delight for children.

Ahmed enjoyed rainfall and moonlit nights. He created a room called “Brishti Bilash' from where he could observe the pattering rain. The green yard was always kept clean and tidy to indulge Ahmed's passion for watching the waxing and waning moon. The manager of Nuhash Polli, Bulbul, led a nine-member team in overseeing the overall management of the idyllic locale.

Whenever Humayun Ahmed travelled within and outside the country, he would collect various types of trees. About 300 species of medicinal and fruit trees can be found within the precincts of Nuhash Polli. The writer also had a tea plantation at Nuhash Polli, which still exists. Initially, Ahmed accompanied his guests while they wandered through the Nuhash Polli estate. He introduced the visitors to various species and would invite them to taste the leaves of a particular scented tree.

A swimming pool stands near the bedroom of the deceased writer. He would swim there at times with his dear ones. Once he swam with noted Indian litterateur Sunil Gangopadhyay. Nuhash Polli was Ahmed's favorite shooting spot for almost all the TV plays and films directed by him.

গাজীপুরের পিরুজালী গ্রামের বেশীরভাগ পথই ঘন শালবনে আচ্ছাদিত। আলো আধারিতে ঢেকে থাকা এমনই একটি পথ আপনাকে নিয়ে যাবে গাজীপুর সদর থেকে ২৫ কিলোমিটার দূরে অবস্থিত নুহাশপল্লীতে। কথার জাদুকর হুমায়ুন আহমেদের জন্য নুহাশপল্লী ছিল একটি স্বর্গ। টিভি নাটক এবং চলচ্চিত্র নির্মাণ শুরু করার পর তিনি তাঁর বেশীরভাগ সময় এখানেই কাটিয়েছেন। সকলের জন্য উন্মুক্ত নুহাশপল্লীতে আসলে ছবিরমত সুন্দর এই জায়গাটি ঘুরে দেখতে পারবেন।

১৯৮৭ সালে ২২ বিঘা জমির উপর স্থাপিত নুহাশপল্লীর বর্তমান আয়তন প্রায় ৪০ বিঘা। অভিনেতা ডাঃ ইজাজ এখানকার জমিটি কিনতে সহায়তা করেন। হুমায়ুন আহমেদ এবং তাঁর প্রথম স্ত্রী গুলতেকিন আহমেদের একমাত্র পুত্র নুহাশের নামে নুহাশপল্লীর নামকরণ করা হয়েছে। গান এবং প্রকৃতির সান্নিধ্যে থাকতে ভালবাসতেন হুমায়ুন আহমেদ।জীবদ্দশায় সর্বশেষ নুহাশ পল্লীতে আসার পর তিনি নুহাশ পল্লীতে হেঁটে বেড়িয়েছিলেন এবং একান্ত কিছু মুহূর্ত প্রকৃতির কাছে থেকে অতিবাহিত করেছিলেন।নুহাশ পল্লীর উত্তর প্রান্তে একটি বড় পুকর রয়েছে যেটির উপর একটি কাঠের সেতু নির্মাণ করা হয়েছে। পুকুরের মাঝে কৃত্রিম দ্বীপ তৈরি করে একটি তাঁবু টানানো হত। হুমায়ুন আহমেদ ও তাঁর স্ত্রী মেহের আফরোজ শাওনের একটি কন্যা সন্তান পৃথিবীর আলো দেখার আগেই মারা যায়। হুমায়ুন আহমেদ তাঁর সেই কন্যার নাম দিয়েছিলেন লীলাবতি। এই পুকুরটির নামও রাখা হয়েছে লীলাবতি। হুমায়ুন আহমেদ লীলাবতি নামে একটি গ্রন্থও রচনা করেছেন।

হুমায়ুন আহমেদ যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে চিকিৎসাধীন থাকার সময় এই পুকুরের পাশেই ‘ভুতবিলাস’ নামে একটি ভবন নির্মাণ করা হয়। জীবদ্দশায় সর্বশেষ নুহাশ পল্লীতে আসার পর হুমায়ুন আহমেদ ভুত বিলাসের উদ্বোধন করেছিলেন। তিনি মনে করতেন মধ্যরাতে ভুতবিলাসের বারান্দায় বসে থাকলে ভুতের দেখা পাওয়া যাবে।

স্থানীয় স্থপতি আসাদুজ্জামান খানের তৈরি করা বেশকিছু ভাস্কর্য রয়েছে নুহাশ পল্লীতে। এখানে প্রবেশের সময় ‘মা ও শিশু’ নামক ভাস্কর্যটি দেখে মুগ্ধ না হয়ে পারবেন না। শিশুদের আনন্দ দিতে এখানে ভুত এবং ব্যাঙের আকারের ভাস্কর্য নির্মাণ করা হয়েছে। এছাড়া এখানকার ট্রি হাউজটি শিশুদের আনন্দের অন্যতম উৎস।হুমায়ুন আহমেদ ভালবাসতেন বৃষ্টি এবং পূর্ণিমার রাত। বৃষ্টি দেখার জন্য তিনি ‘বৃষ্টি বিলাস’ নামে একটি কক্ষ নির্মাণ করেছিলেন। হুমায়ুন আহমেদ যেন চাঁদের ছায়া দেখতে পারেন এজন্য এখানকার সবুজ উঠান সর্বদা পরিষ্কার পরিচ্ছন্ন রাখা হত। নুহাশ পল্লীর ম্যানেজার বুলবুল নয়জনের একটি দল নিয়ে এখানকার সবকিছু দেখাশোনা করেন।

হুমায়ুন আহমেদ যখনই দেশে ও বিদেশে ভ্রমন করতেন তিনি বিভিন্ন রকমের গাছ সংগ্রহ করতেন। নুহাশ পল্লীতে প্রায় ৩০০ প্রজাতির ফলের এবং ঔষধি গাছ রয়েছে। এছাড়া তিনি এখানে খেজুর গাছ এবং চা গাছ লাগিয়েছিলেন যা এখনও আছে।প্রথমদিকে হুমায়ুন আহমেদ নুহাশ পল্লীতে মেহমান নিয়ে আসতেন যারা নুহাশ পল্লী ঘুরে দেখত। তিনি অতিথিদের বিভিন্ন গাছের সাথে পরিচয় করিয়ে দিতেন এবং একটি বিশেষ সুগন্ধিযুক্ত গাছের পাতার স্বাদ গ্রহনের আমন্ত্রন জানাতেন।

বরেণ্য এই লেখকের শোবার ঘরের কাছেই রয়েছে একটি সুইমিংপুল। মাঝে মাঝে প্রিয়জনদের নিয়ে তিনি এখানে সাঁতার কাটতেন। একবার হুমায়ুন আহমেদ ভারতের প্রখ্যাত লেখক সুনীল গঙ্গোপাধ্যায় কে নিয়েও সাঁতার কেটেছিলেন। হুমায়ুন আহমেদের পরিচালিত বেশীরভাগ সফল নাটক ও সিনেমার শুটিং করা হয়েছিল এই নুহাশ পল্লীতেই।
