Brief

Musa Khan Mosque (মুসা খাঁ মসজিদ) is yet another edifice inside the Dhaka University premise that was built during the Mughal era. Location of the antique mosque is at south of Doyel Chattar, beside the Karzon Hall, opposite of the Dhaka University swimming complex. Exact Google map coordinate is (23°43’36.33″N, 90°24’2.92″E). You can find another mosque (Shahbaz Khan Mosque) near that place contemporary to this one.

Probably this mosque was built by Musa Khan, son of Isha Khan who was a prominent Zamindar from Baro Bhuiyan. It was quite unsure about the original time when it was built. Musa Khan died during 1623, but the structure of the mosque is almost similar to the Khwaja Shahbaz’s Mosque and it was built during 1679. So neither the date nor the builder of the mosque is confirmed. Some people believe this one was built by either Shaista Khan or even later by Dewan Manawar Khan.

The mosque has a vault platform, and over this plinth the main architecture of the mosque is planted. It is a small building just like any other mosques during that period. It has three domes over the top. Middle one is the larger than other twos. Both the inside and outside of the mosque is plastered with cement and washed white with lime. There is a grave of Musa Khan is available at the northeast side.

The mosque has gone through several renovations. Also from the first sight it seemed to me, it is currently not under proper care. The authority just placed a signboard beside the mosque and thought their works are done. It is not a good practice to color this building with yellow this year, and next year white(I have seen this mosque in several colors over the last few years), and finally let the color be disappeared. We are not in a position to do experiment on such a precious object.

Nine Dome Mosque is now a protected monument of the Department of Archaeology, Bangladesh. There are 3 pointed arched openings on the north, south and east sides adjoined within tall rectangular frames. The western wall is relieved with three semicircular mihrabs of which the central one is larger and is projected to the west.

The decorations of the multi-cusped mihrabs contains terracotta floral, scroll and foliage patterns within rectangular panels. Each Mihrabs center is decorated with chain and bell motif. Apexes of the arches have diaper designs and large rosettes at the spandrels. Rest three walls are relieved with only two niches in each.

The corner towers are round and are surfaced by eight bands of moldings. The exterior walls are eased with vertical panels. The curved cornice is very prominent.

খান জাহান আলীর মাজারের অর্ধেক কিলোমিটারেরও কম দূরত্বে ঠাকুরদীঘির পশ্চিম তীরে নয় গম্বুজ মসজিদ অবস্থিত। এই মসজিদটি বর্তমানে বাংলাদেশের প্রত্নতাত্ত্বিক অধিদফতরের অধীনে একটি সংরক্ষিত নিদর্শন। মসজিদটির উত্তর, দক্ষিন এবং পূর্বদিকে লম্বা আয়াতক্ষেত্রাকার কাঠামোর মধ্যে তিনটি ধনুকআকারের ফটক রয়েছে। নয়গম্বুজবিশিষ্ট মসজিদের পশ্চিম দিকের দেয়ালে তিনটি অর্ধ গোলাকার মিহরাব রয়েছে যেগুলোর মধ্যে মাঝখানের মিহরাবটি বড় এবং পশ্চিমদিকে হেলানো। খাঁজকাটা মিহরাবগুলোতে টেরাকোটার উপর আয়াতক্ষেত্রাকার কাঠামোর মধ্যে ফুল ও পাতার নকশা রয়েছে এবং মিহরাবের মাঝখানে শিকল ও ঘণ্টার নকশা রয়েছে। মসজিদের খিলানের শীর্ষে বুটির নকশা এবং খিলান, ছাদ ও দেয়ালের মধ্যবর্তী স্থানে গোলাপের নকশা রয়েছে। নয়গম্বুজবিশিষ্ট মসজিদের অবশিষ্ট তিনটি দেয়ালের প্রতিটিতে দুটি করে খিলান রয়েছে। মসজিদটির কোণায় অবস্থিত টাওয়ারগুলো গোলাকার এবং এগুলোতে আট স্তরের ঢালাই রয়েছে।

Many people believe that it is a 15^th century architecture which was built by Shah Mokdum(R). There is no inscription found for any date. Shahjadpur mosque stands on the bank of the river Hurasagar at Dargapara, the extreme end of Shahjadpur proper, in the district of Sirajganj. It is not dated by any inscription. Architectural as well as decorative features of the mosque point to its 15th century origin. Its architectural and decorative features indicate that it is of the 15^th century. It has a rectangular multi domed shape. Externally it is 19.13m tall and 12.6m wide and internally it is 15.77m tall and 9.60m wide. Its walls are 1.5m thick. Inside we can find 2 rows made of stone pillars and they carry pointed archways. There are 8 black slag pillars. There are 5 arched entrances in the mosque parallel to the west wall mihrab. There are eight black basalt pillars, square at the base, then octagonal, and having a square capital on the top. The mosque is entered by five impressive arched entrances parallel to the mihrabs in the west wall. There are three blind niches on the south and north sides where the openings would have been. There are two subsidiary mihrabs on the left side of the central mihrab, and one on the right side. The place of another mihrab on the right side of the central mihrab is occupied by the mimbar of the mosque. The plan shows five bays and three aisles, allowing for fifteen uniform domes over the roof. The decoration and roof the mosque is slightly curved which dates back during time of Sultanate period. Bozra Shahi Mosque is an elegant historic mosque. Amanullah built it during the 1741-42 AD and later it was repaired by the Bazra Zamindar named Khan Bahadur Ali Ahmad and Khan Bahadur Mujir Uddin Ahmad. This mosque has similar complexion of the mosques during that era. The main difference is the stylish outer walls. It has three domes at the top; the middle dome is slight larger.

Also it has lot of small minarets at the columns of the mosque. It has three doorways at the eastern side, just under the domes. The mosque had a large water tank at the eastern side, but now it’s just shrinking into one percent of its original size. Southern side of the mosque has a large graveyard.

একটি চমৎকার ঐতিহাসিক মসজিদের নাম বজরা শাহী মসজিদ। ১৭৪১-৪২ সালে জনৈক আমানুল্লাহ এই মসজিদটি নির্মাণ করেন এবং পরবর্তীতে বজরার জমিদার খান বাহাদুর আলী আহমাদ এবং খান বাহাদুর মুজিরউদ্দিন আহমাদ এই মসজিদটি মেরামত করেন। সেসময়কার অন্যান্য মসজিদের সাথে এই মসজিদটির স্থাপত্যশৈলীতে মিল থাকলেও বাইরের নকশা করা দেয়ালে মূল পার্থক্য পরিলক্ষিত হয়। মসজিদের তিনটি গম্বুজের মধ্যে মাঝখানের গম্বুজটি সামান্য বড়। মসজিদের খামগুলোর সাথে বেশকিছু ছোট মিনার রয়েছে। মসজিদের পূর্বদিকে গম্বুজের নীচেই তিনটি ফটক রয়েছে। মসজিদের পূর্বদিকে একটি বড় পানির ট্যাংক ছিল তবে বর্তমানে সেটির আকার অনেক ছোট। মসজিদের দক্ষিনদিকে একটি বড় কবরস্থান রয়েছে।

Gutia Mosque is situated in Barisal, also known as Baitul Aman Mosque. The mosque was built 20 km away from Barisal in a place called Ujirpur. It is supposed that, it took 210 million BDT to build this mosque. This mosque is outstanding to look at as the best equipment’s have been used. It is well decorated with lights, frames, and has speakers of BOSE, so the Azan is very melodious. The area is huge with a Madrasa, Eidgah, pond and garden. It has 30 staffs to look after the mosque. This mosque has separate place for women to perform Salah.

Mr. Sharfuddin Ahmed Shantu established this mosque in 16th Dec, 2003. He spent 10 million dollars to build this Gutia Masjid. The designs and decorations used here are taken from Europe, Asia, and Middle East's most famous mosque.

ইউরোপ, এশিয়া এবং মধ্য প্রাচ্যের নামকরা মসজিদগুলোর নকশা অনুকরনের প্রায় ২১ কোটি টাকা ব্যয় করে বরিশাল থেকে ২০ কিলোমিটার দূরে উজিরপুরে ১৬ ডিসেম্বর ২০০৩ তারিখে এই মসজিদটি নির্মাণ করেন জনাব শরফুদ্দিন আহমেদ সানটু। নয়নাভিরাম এই মসজিদটিতে ব্যাবহার করা হয়েছে উন্নমানের কাঁচ, ফ্রেম, এবং বোস স্পিকার, যেটির কারনে এই মসজিদের আজান বিশেষভাবে শ্রুতিমধুর হয়েছে। মসজিদটির বিশাল সীমানার মধ্যে আরও আছে মাদ্রাসা, ঈদগাহ, পুকুর এবং বাগান। এই মসজিদটির তত্ত্বাবধানে ৩০ জন কর্মচারী নিয়োজিত আছেন। মহিলাদের নামাজ আদায়ের জন্য আলাদা ব্যাবস্থা রয়েছে মসজিদটিতে।
