Brief

Musa Khan Mosque (মুসা খাঁ মসজিদ) is yet another edifice inside the Dhaka University premise that was built during the Mughal era. Location of the antique mosque is at south of Doyel Chattar, beside the Karzon Hall, opposite of the Dhaka University swimming complex. Exact Google map coordinate is (23°43’36.33″N, 90°24’2.92″E). You can find another mosque (Shahbaz Khan Mosque) near that place contemporary to this one.

Probably this mosque was built by Musa Khan, son of Isha Khan who was a prominent Zamindar from Baro Bhuiyan. It was quite unsure about the original time when it was built. Musa Khan died during 1623, but the structure of the mosque is almost similar to the Khwaja Shahbaz’s Mosque and it was built during 1679. So neither the date nor the builder of the mosque is confirmed. Some people believe this one was built by either Shaista Khan or even later by Dewan Manawar Khan.

The mosque has a vault platform, and over this plinth the main architecture of the mosque is planted. It is a small building just like any other mosques during that period. It has three domes over the top. Middle one is the larger than other twos. Both the inside and outside of the mosque is plastered with cement and washed white with lime. There is a grave of Musa Khan is available at the northeast side.

The mosque has gone through several renovations. Also from the first sight it seemed to me, it is currently not under proper care. The authority just placed a signboard beside the mosque and thought their works are done. It is not a good practice to color this building with yellow this year, and next year white(I have seen this mosque in several colors over the last few years), and finally let the color be disappeared. We are not in a position to do experiment on such a precious object.

Korotia Zamindar Bari (করটিয়া জমিদার বাড়ি) is located at the Korotia of Tangail (করটিয়া, টাঙ্গাইল). The famous Zamindar (জমিদার) of Tangail, Wajed Ali Khan Panni (ওয়াজেদ আলী খান পান্নি) built that palace beside the Putia River (পুটিয়া নদী) at Korotia (করটিয়া). The whole Zamindar palace premise having 1000m x 500m dimension comprises of lot of old buildings and ponds.

The main gate of the building is currently locked and no outsiders are entertained to have an entry. So if you go there, make sure you can have an entry, or you have to return from there without visiting that archaic building. According to the local people, the palace is open for public at 1st and 12th boishak (বৈশাখ) of Bengali calendar, and the two Eid days.

Near the Zamindar Bari (জমিদার বাড়ি) an old mosque is available. The mosque is having eight domes in two rows. First row is having five equal sized smaller domes and the second one is having three domes where middle one is the largest. At the eastern side of the mosque, a 15 feet tall minaret is available with old stairs. I don't know the exact built date of the mosque. If you know, you can share as a comment at below.

টাঙ্গাইলের করটিয়ায় পুটিয়া নদীর পাশে ওয়াজেদ আলী খান পন্নী এই বিখ্যাত জমিদারবাড়িটি নির্মাণ করেন। ১০০০ মিটার x ৫০০ মিটার এলাকায় অবস্থিত জমিদারবাড়ির আশেপাশে বেশকিছু প্রাচীন ভবন ও পুকুর রয়েছে।

জমিদারবাড়ির মূল ফটকটি বর্তমানে তালাবদ্ধ রাখা হয় এবং বাইরের কাউকে এখানে ঢুকতে দেওয়া হয়না। তাই এই জমিদারবাড়িটি দেখতে গেলে নিশ্চিত করে যাওয়া উচিত যে আপনি ভিতরে ঢুকতে পারবেন। অন্যথায় এই ঐতিহাসিক স্থাপনাটি আপনাকে না দেখেই ফিরতে হবে। স্থানীয়দের কাছ থেকে জানা যায় যে, বাংলা বৈশাখ মাসের এক এবং বারো তারিখে ছাড়াও দুই ঈদের দিন জমিদারবাড়িটি জনসাধারণের জন্য উন্মুক্ত করে দেওয়া হয়।

জমিদারবাড়ির কাছেই রয়েছে একটি প্রাচীন মসজিদ। মসজিদটিতে দুই সারিতে আটটি গম্বুজ রয়েছে। প্রথম সারিতে পাঁচটি একই আকারের ছোট গম্বুজ রয়েছে এবং দ্বিতীয় সারির তিনটি গম্বুজের মধ্যে মাঝেরটি আকারে বড়। মসজিদের পূর্বদিকে পুরাতন সিঁড়ি বিশিষ্ট একটি ১৫ ফুট উঁচু মিনার রয়েছে। মসজিদটির নির্মাণের সময় সম্পর্কে জানা যায়নি।

Shamsur Rahman ( শামসুর রাহমান, 23 October 1929 – 17 August 2006) was a famous poet, columnist and journalist of Bangladesh. Shamsur Rahman, who emerged in the latter half of the 20th century, wrote more than sixty books of poetry and is considered a key figure in Bengali literature. He was regarded the ‘unofficial poet laureate’ of Bangladesh. Major themes in his poetry and writings include liberal humanism, human relations, romanticism, rebellion of youth, the emergence of and consequent events in Bangladesh, and opposition to religious fundamentalism.

Shamsur Rahman was born in his grandfather's house at Mahut-Tuli, Dhaka. His paternal home is situated on the bank of the river Meghna, a village named Paratoli, near the Raipura Upazila of Narshingdi district. He was the fourth of thirteen children. During leisure time, he used to go his Village and there beside the pond near to the house, he wrote one of the great poems

Still today, all the things are in same spatial context. But, the building of his house is in very poor condition. It’s almost on the way to decay.

Paratoly Shahi Jem-e Mosque:

There is a three domed mosque beside the house of Shamsur Rahman, which was built in the Islamic year 1299.This 137 years old mosque still architecturally fit and being used for regular prayers.

Mirer Bagan Zam-E Mosque (মীরের বাগান জাম-ই মসজিদ) is one of the famous historical places of Gaibandha. It was built by renowned saint Shah Sultan Gazi. There is a saying that about 1000 years ago the mosque was built. There is also another saying that Shah Sultan Gazi had defeated Hindu Raja Kalidas and then built the Mosque for spreading Islam. Everyone feels amazing to see the inner beauty of the Mosque.

Three tombs (মাযার) are located near the Mosque. These are the tomb of Hazrat Shah Sultan Gazi,tomb of Mir Mosarraf Hossain and tomb of Ibn Shorfuddin (ইবনে শরফুদ্দিন). These three saint came here only for Spreading Islam in this region. In front of the Mosque there is a huge garden. One of the saints named Mir was the reason to call this mosque as 'Mirer Bagan Zam-e Mosque'. Now the Mosque is conducted by a waqf estate (ওয়াকফ স্টেট). Every year in the month of Boishakh, a fair is celebrated here in Mirer Bagan.

Kartalab Khan Mashjid or Mosque of Kartalab Khan (কর্তালাব খান মসজিদ) is located at the Begum Bazar of Old Dhaka. It was built by the Dewan Murshid Quli Khan, also known as Kartalab Khan during 1701-1704, and the mosque named after him. For its location, people used to call this as Begum Bazar Mosque. Hardly very few people know this mosque as Kartalab Khan's Mosque now a days. The Google Map coordinate of the mosque is (23°43'2.03"N, 90°23'54.59"E), near to the Dhaka Central Jail.

Like any other mosques of that period, this one was built over a plinth like high vault. This mosque has five domes at the top of it, and an extended do-chala (দো চালা) like room at northern side. Though it was built around 300 years back, but now a days none of its antiquities are available.

Old Dhaka is already a congested area and there is hardly any space around the mosque for you to observe. Busy trading is going on around the mosque area. In fact it will be hard for you to stand beside the road and watch the top of the mosque.

There are buildings around the mosque those are using as market. So you can easily use any of those. This mosque could have been used as a token of our glorious past if it were handled with great care.
