Brief

Tanguar haor (Bengali: টাঙ্গুয়ার হাওর), (also called Tangua haor), located in the Dharmapasha and Tahirpur upazilas of Sunamganj District in Bangladesh, is a unique wetland ecosystem of national importance and has come into international focus. The area of Tanguar haor including 46 villages within the haor is about 100 km2 of which 2,802.36 ha2 is wetland. It is the source of livelihood for more than 40,000 people. The Government of Bangladesh declared Tanguar haor as an Ecologically Critical Area in 1999 considering its critical condition as a result of overexploitation of its natural resources. In 2000, the hoar basin was declared a Ramsar site – wetland of international importance. With this declaration, the Government is committed to preserve its natural resources and has taken several steps for protection of this wetland.

Tanguar haor plays an important role in fish production as it functions as a ‘mother fishery’ for the country. Every winter the haor is home to about 200 types of migratory birds. The haor is an important source of fish. In 1999-2000, the government earned 7,073,184 takas as revenue just from fisheries of the haor. There are more than 140 species of fresh water fish in the haor. The more predominant among them are: ayir, gang magur, baim, tara, gutum, gulsha, tengra, titna, garia, beti, kakia etc. Hijal, karach, gulli, balua, ban tulsi, nalkhagra and other freshwater wetland trees are in this haor.

Plant species like Hizol (Barringtonia acutangula), Clematis cadmia, Crataeva nurvala, Euryale ferox, Nelumbo nucifera, Ottelia alismoides, Oxystelma secamone var. secamone, Pongamia pinnata, Rosa clinophylla, and Typha species are threatened, rapidly disappearing and becoming rare.

How to go

It is located in the Dharampasha and Tahirpur Upazila of North-Eastern part in Sunamganj District. So, the best way to reach there is to take bus from Sunamganj and reach Dharmapasha Upazila. From Dharmapasha Upazila, take CNG or Rickshaw to reach that haor.

You can reach Sunamganj only by road. There is no direct rail, air or water transportation system available.

Purakhali Baor holds a area of 78 hectors in general, where in rainy season, the size enlarges to 94 hectors. There is 2 hectors sized Sanctuary containing 22 species of natural fish, 17 species of local and foreign birds, and 9 types of Aquatic Plants. There are mainly 4 villages surrounding the Baor namely Porabali, Mothuapur, Dighirpar and Dewapar.

The main objective of this sanctuary is to increase the number of natural fish, protect and nourish the birds and aquatic plants. To make those objectives successful, this sanctuary was established in the year 2000. There are 4 fish retrieved group taking care of many species of fish.

There are also many species of tree surrounding this Baor. There are around 1500 herb, fruit and other types of trees. However, there is only one nursery.

Halti Beel is the part of a wide area of Piprul, Khajura, Madhnagar and Brahmapur Union of Natore Sadar Upazila. It is considered to be the 2^nd Cox’s Bazar of Bangladesh according to its scenic beauty. From the Bengali month of Boishakh to Kartik, this bill goes around 5-8 feet underwater. Halti Beel is famous for the natural breeding of fish. Halati bill is attached to the River Atrai. A portion of Halti beel has been announced as fishery sanctuary where water remains throughout the year. In the rainy season, the landscape of this area is stunning and attractive. During the rainy season, many tourists of the Patul-Hapaniya area come here for boat trip.

The area is submerged in water for almost six months of the year. When this beel becomes saturated with water during the rainy season, the small villages look just like the islands. To enjoy the amazing beauty of this beel, many tourists, from home and abroad visit here every year. There is a submersible 8 km long road inside the Halti Beel connected Piprul union with Khajuria Union.

নাটোর সদর উপজেলার পিপরুল, খাজুরা, মাধনগর ও ব্রক্ষপুর ইউনিয়নের বিস্তৃত এলাকা হালতি বিলের অংশ। বৈশাখ মাস হতে কার্তিক মাস পর্যন্ত বিল এলাকা ৫ ফুট হতে ৮ ফুট পানিতে নিমজ্জিত থাকে। প্রাকৃতিক মাছের প্রজননস্থল হিসেবে হালতি বিল বিখ্যাত। হালতি বিল আত্রাই নদীর সাথে সংযুক্ত। শীতকালে হালতি বিলের যে অংশে পানি থাকে - তা মৎস অভয়ারন্য হিসেবে ঘোষনা করা হয়েছে। ফলে উক্ত অভয়ারন্যে শীতকালে যে মাছগুলোকে সংরক্ষন করা হয় - সেগুলো বর্ষাকালে হালতি বিলে ছড়িয়ে পড়ে এবং প্রজনন মৌসুমে প্রাকৃতিক পরিবেশে প্রচুর পরিমান মাছ উৎপাদন করে। এ এলাকায় উৎপাদিত ছোট-বড় দেশী মাছ অত্যন্ত সুস্বাদু। বর্ষাকালে এ এলাকার প্রাকৃতিক দৃশ্য নয়নাভিরাম। বর্ষাকালে হালতি বিলে নৌ-ভ্রমনের জন্য পাটুল-হাপানিয়া এলাকায় প্রচুর পর্যটকের সমাগম ঘটে।

ব্রক্ষপুর, মাধনগর, খাজুরা ও পিপরুল এলাকার বিস্তৃত জলাভূমি হালতি বিল নামে পরিচিত। উক্ত এলাকা বৎসরের প্রায় ছয় মাস পানিতে নিমজ্জিত থাকে। বর্ষাকালে যখন এই বিলটি পানিতে পরিপূর্ণ হয়ে উঠে তখন এর মাঝে অবস্থিত গ্রামগুলিকে ছোট ছোট দ্বীপের মত মনে হয় । এই বিলের অপরূপ সৌন্দর্য উপভোগ করতে এবং এ বিলে নৌকা ভ্রমন করতে দেশ-বিদেশে বহূ পর্যটকের আগমন ঘটে। এই বিলের মধ্য দিয়ে প্রায় ৮ কিমি লম্বা সাবমারজিবল রাস্তা রয়েছে - যা পিপরুলের সাথে খাজুরার সংযোগ ঘটিয়েছে।

Akashi Haor (আকাশী হাওড়) is a small one, but extraordinarily beautiful. The word Akashi means sky blue color and the word Haor means inundated water body that is created due to overflowing of nearby river. So combining the two words it means sky blue colored water body. And interestingly the color of the water was really bluish. The clouds from the sky easily reflect on the pristine water from the Haor.

Few places are occupied with water there. So local people usually do fishing, and probably they will continue until the area dried up totally. Most of the fishing nets are having same design and structure. Also the style of fishing is a bit different from other area as well.

আকারে ছোট হলেও আকাশী হাওড় একটি অত্যন্ত সৌন্দর্যমণ্ডিত স্থান। ‘আকাশী’ শব্দের অর্থ আকাশের নীল রঙ এবং ‘হাওড়’ অর্থ নদীর পানি উপচে পড়ার ফলে সৃষ্ট জলাভূমি। তাই এই দুটি শব্দ মিলিত করলে অর্থ দাড়ায় আকাশের নীল রঙের একটি জলাভূমি। এই হাওড়ের পানির রঙ সত্যিকার অর্থেই নীলচে। হাওড়ের স্বচ্ছ পানিতে আকাশের সাদা মেঘ খুব সহজেই প্রতিফলিত হয়ে অপরূপ দৃশ্যের সৃষ্টি করে।

এখানকার কিছু কিছু স্থান পানিতে ভরপুর থাকায় স্থানীয়রা এখানে মাছ ধরে থাকে এবং এই এলাকাটি সম্পূর্ণরুপে শুকিয়ে না যাওয়া পর্যন্ত তারা এই কার্যক্রম অব্যাহত রাখবে বলেই আশা করা যায়। এখানকার জেলেদের ব্যবহার করা মাছ ধরা জালগুলোর নকশা এবং আকার প্রায় একই ধরনের। এখানে মাছ ধরার কৌশল দেশের অন্যান্য এলাকার মাছ ধরার কৌশল থেকেও ভিন্ন।

Dhoronti (also spelled as Dharanti (ধরন্তি) or Dharonti) is a beautiful watery place that is a 3 hour drive from the busy Dhaka city. Around the rainy season this place is the perfect time to visit. It is located around the road between Sarail to Nasirnagar of Brahmanbaria District. Both sides of the road are flooded with water. You can wash your city junk and tiredness from there by having a quick day trip.

This place is basically a picnic spot for the party lovers. So during the afternoon it gets too much crowded at the weekends. You'll find few boats beside the road for hourly based renting. Also you can ride on those with other people as a group to lower your cost but to taste the flavor.

This road is several miles long and both side of that area is packed with water. It doesn't have any houses beside the road (no space left). Neither there are trees beside the roads as well. This place is infamous for hijacking when the sun gets down. The local people will forbid you to stay there after the sunset. It doesn't matter the size of your group. They use to come with 10/15 people together to snatch things from you. So better not to wait there for the sunset. We have left this place even around at 4:30pm to avoid any odd situation.

ব্যস্ত ঢাকা শহর থেকে মাত্র তিন ঘণ্টার দূরত্বে অবস্থিত অপূর্ব এক জলাভুমির নাম ধরন্তি। বর্ষাকাল এখানে বেড়াতে আসার উপযুক্ত সময়। ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া জেলার সরাইল-নাসিরনগর সড়কে ধরন্তি অবস্থিত। এখানে আসলে দেখতে পাবেন পথের দু ধার পানিতে পূর্ণ হয়ে রয়েছে। এখানে এসে আপনি শহরের যান্ত্রিক জীবনের সকল ক্লান্তি ও অবসাদকে ধুয়ে ফেলতে পারবেন। এই স্থানটি মূলত একটি পিকনিক স্পট। তাই সাপ্তাহিক ছুটির দিন বিকালবেলা এই স্থানটিতে জনসমাগম হয়ে থাকে। ধরন্তিতে পথের পাশে নৌকা ভ্রমনের জন্য নৌকা ভাড়া পাওয়া যায়। অন্যান্যদের সাথে অল্প খরচে নৌকা ভ্রমনের স্বাদ নিতে আপনিও এসব নৌকায় চড়তে পারেন।

ধরন্তির মূল সড়কটি কয়েক মাইল দীর্ঘ যেটির দু ধার পানিতে পরিপূর্ণ থাকে তাই পথের ধারের এসব স্থানে কোনো বাসাবাড়ি, গাছপালা ও রাস্তাঘাট নেই। সূর্যাস্তের পর ছিনতাইয়ের জন্য এই স্থানের কুখ্যাতিও রয়েছে তাই স্থানীয়রা সূর্যাস্তের পর আপনাকে এখানে অবস্থান করতে নিরুৎসাহিত করবে। আপনার দলে যে কজনই থাকুক না কেন ছিনতাইকারীরা প্রায় ১০ জন থেকে ১৫ জন মিলে সংঘবদ্ধভাবে ছিনতাই করে থাকে। তাই এখান সূর্যাস্তের পর অবস্থান না করাই শ্রেয়।
