How to go

From Kuakata beach, Gangamati Reserved Forest is in the eastern end of the Kuakata beach. You can get local transport (bike) to reach Gangamati Reserved. BRTC bus reaches Kuakata from Dhaka, departing from Saidabad bus terminal. It usually takes about 12 hours to reach there. The BRTC buses are comparatively good.

How To Reach: Patuakhali District

From the capital of Dhaka to Patuakhali, there are three options of transport available. Basic information about these routes to reach Patuakhali has been mentioned in the other part.

The road distance from Dhaka to Patuakhali is 319 km. You can take a bus from Sayedabad or Gabtoli counters of Dhaka to reach Patuakhali. There are two routes by bus to arrive at Patuakhali district. One goes from Dhaka to Mawa to Barisal to Patuakhali and another one drives from Dhaka to Aricha to Barisal to Patuakhali. The bus fare generally ranges from Tk 450 to Tk 700.

Launch is a comfortable and low expense transport to go from Dhaka to Patuakhali. From Sadarghat of Dhaka, two to three launches drive to Patuakhali. The launches usually start at 5:30 pm, 6:30 pm and 7 pm and arrive in the destination at 6 am of the following morning.

Names of some of the launch services are: Saikat, Sattar Khan, Achol and Sundarban.

Barisal is also connected to Dhaka through air. Flight starts from Dhaka airport and arrive at Barisal Airport. From there on, you have to take a road transport to reach the district of Patuakhali.
Biman bangladesh is currently the only airline, offering flights to Barisal from Dhaka.

Things to do

You can view a small portion of Mangrove forest with variety trees and plants in this forest such as keora, gewa, baen, kankra, goran, hetal, golpata. Different wild animals like wild boar, deer donkey exist there and you might also see varieties of bird.
Evening is the ideal time for viewing the sun caste shadows on the abstract open mangrove roots.

Rubber Forest is not just a forest to look over, it’s a popular place now a days for tracking, wondering, picnic center and so on. While exploring Mymensingh, there are some extra-ordinary places to pay a visit. Rubber forest/garden of Santoshpur in fulbaria Upazila is one of those. Fulbaria rubber forest and processing industries is one of the renowned places in this district. ORB Team recently visited that place while exploring the heritage of Mymensingh.

It belongs to an area of 106 acres which make this place look like a massive forest. Besides rubber garden there is a significant number of monkeys being found in a place inside the forest. Where you will also find a small forest office. Local people call this as Bandar office (বান্দর অফিস/বানর অফিস) which is very funny indeed. Nearby the office you may discover monkeys wondering around in a particular area with pride & dignity, as it seems like you just entered into their territory. It would be wise not exchanging any food with them, people may suggest you to buy them some peanuts. Once you buy for them, certainly they will be obedient for you and may follow your go.

Rubber Processing Zone:

One and half kilometer from Monkey zone, a traveler will find an industry of Rubber processing which is very near to the link road, connecting the forest with main road. It’s named after "Bangladesh Forest Development Corporation, Rubber processing factory". Here a traveler can observe the whole methods of rubber processing. However, if someone is interested to observe the methods from the very beginning of collecting raw rubber from the trees, then we would rather suggest to stay in nearby places of forest for one or two days. But, it would be so tough to stay nearby places beside the forest as there is no residential hotel or boarding to stay overnight.

Fatrar char is the nice tourist place near Kuakata beach. From Kuakata traveler may visit the Fatrar Chor. Fatrar Chor is the part of the Sundarban forest. Fatrar Char is also known as Fatrar Bon. As the Fatrar Char is the part of Sundarban so it is mangrove forest. Fatrar Bon is fairly big forest in Kuakata. There are many Timber trees available here. The tree of this forest in very hard and strong. And the wood of this trees are very long lasting and also costly. A wood business is started at that place and these woods are supplied in all over the country.

At first traveler have to rent an engine boat near the beach. It may take about an hour boat journey from Kuakata sea beach. After the thrilling journey traveler will reach at Fatrar chor or Fatrar bon. There is a nice canal in that place and forest beside the canal. Now traveler should enter at the forest after taking the permission from forest camp. There are many wild birds, some monkey, some rabbit, deer and some other animal found at that jungle.

Ratargul Swamp Forest is a fresh water marshland forest located close to river Goain, in Gowainghat Upazila of Sylhet District. This forest is engulfed with freshwater in most of the seasons. This evergreen forest gets over flooded during the rainy season. Different local fish are available here. It’s the terrain of different creatures’ like snakes, monkeys, lizards, insects & birds.

You may also see vulture and Eagle. Some parts of this forest are very small, so boat ride would be tough. However, it is the only swamp forest located in Bangladesh and one of the few freshwater swamp forests in the world. The forest is naturally conserved under the Department of Forestry, Government of Bangladesh.

This evergreen forest is situated by the river Goain and linked with the canal named Chengir Khal. Most of the trees grow here are Pongamia pinnata (Koroch tree). The forest goes under 20-30 feet water in the rainy season. Rest of the year the water level is about 10 feet deep.

Karamjol Wildlife Rescue Center is one of the wonderful visiting place in Sundarbans. To appreciate and to view the most cherished species of Bangladesh’s wildlife, thousands of visitors make their way to Karamjol, a ranger station deep in the forest that also serves as a deer-breeding center. Bangladesh has some exquisite wildlife species that are unique to the country, and Karamjol is one of the gateways to the majestic wildlife sanctuary in Sundarbans.

Karamjol is a forest station for the Rangers. Here you can see a dear breeding center. To visit Sundarban you need to go there with a guide and it is even better if you go there with a group. You can stay two/three days in Sundarban depending on your desire and requirements. One-day tour is not enough for Sundarban as you will not be able to see the nature in haste. For one-day tour you can go up to Karamjol and at a glance visit the outer portion of Sundarbans forest areas.

সুন্দরবনের অন্যতম আকর্ষণীয় স্থান হল করমজল। বাংলাদেশের বন্যপ্রাণী জগতের সবচেয়ে আলোচিত প্রাণীদের দেখতে এবং এসব প্রাণীর সংরক্ষণে উৎসাহ যোগাতে হাজার হাজার পর্যটক করমজলে বেড়াতে আসেন। সুন্দরবনের গভীরে অবস্থিত এই রেঞ্জার স্টেশনটি হরিণ প্রজনন কেন্দ্র হিসেবেও ব্যবহার করা হচ্ছে। করমজলকে বলা যায় বন্যপ্রাণীর রাজকীয় অভয়ারণ্য সুন্দরবনের একটি প্রবেশদ্বার যেখানে রয়েছে এ দেশে অদ্বিতীয় বেশকিছু অপরূপ সুন্দর বন্যপ্রাণী।

সুন্দরবনে বেড়াতে গেলে দলবদ্ধভাবে অথবা একজন গাইড নিয়ে যাওয়াই ভাল। মন চাইলে আপনি সুন্দরবনে দুই তিনদিন থাকতে পারেন। তবে একদিনের জন্য সুন্দরবনে গেলে তা যথেষ্ট হবে না কারন তাড়াহুড়া করে আপনি প্রকৃতিকে ভাল করে দেখতে পারবেন না। তবে একদিনের জন্য সুন্দরবনে গেলে আপনি করমজলে যেতে পারেন এবং সেই সাথে সুন্দরবনের বাইরের দিকের কিছু অংশ এক ঝলকে দেখে নিতে পারেন।
