Brief

Khwaja Shahbaz, the founder of the mosque was a prominent merchant of Dhaka. In fact, prominent is not the paragon for him. People used to call him as “Merchant of Prince”. According to the history of the mosque, it was built at 1679 AD in the surrounding of the Ramna Park.

The mosque has three large Domes, and the architecture is almost similar to the structures at the era of Mughal (Shaista Khan). The measurement of the mosque is exactly 20.73 m by 7.92m. It is comprises with three front doors, where the middle one is a bit larger compare if you compare with other two.

As a commemoration, the mosque premise has a tomb of the founder of the mosque. The tomb is decorated with only a single dome. The southern part of the tomb has a nicely shaped veranda with a curvy roof. Inside the tomb, there is something which is covered with red cloth.

Each corner of the mosque or the tomb has a firmly built pillar, which are lovely to examine. The baroque style of the pillar will certainly impress you. Neither the mosque nor the tomb has any window. That’s why when you’ll look inside the tomb or mosque, you’ll find it a bit darker, no matter how sunny the day is. Finally it is strictly forbidden for the women for “Jumma Prayer” at Friday. Using a notice board at the facade of the mosque, it’s proclaimed that they have no facilities for women for Jumma Prayer.

Chini Masjid is located at Syedpur Upazila of Nilphamari district. Saidpur is the northern railway and industrial city of Bangladesh. Chini Masjid is one of the most fascinating and distinctive architect. Chini Masjid is also known as glass Mosque. Chini Masjid or Glass Mosque was established in 1883.

Glass mosque was built in only 1 year which seems unbelievable when we take our eyes to the design of external and internal part. To decorate Chini Masjid, 283 pieces of Cross Marble stones were used. Along with Cross Marble stones, 25 tons small chips of Chinaware-plate and pieces of glass (both color and non-color) porcelain were also used. This mosque has 27 towers from which 5 towers are still incomplete.

Kismat-Maria Mosque (কিসমত-মারিয়া মসজিদ) is the academic name, where local people knows this as Durgapur mosque (দুর্গাপুর মসজিদ). The mosque is located at the Maria (মারিয়া) village, adjacent to village Kismat (কিসমত), that's why it is called Kismat-Maria Masjid.

It is totally unknown about any sort of historical information. No inscription available at the doorway or anywhere. Even the government doesn't have any document or info regarding this. To add insult to the injury, the local people cannot remember anything about this mosque either. It’s a total mystery.

It is certain that the mosque was built several hundred years back. It is having three domes at the top. Four ornate pillars at the four sides of the mosque. Eastern side of the mosque is having three entrances. The mosque is built over a 2-3 feet of high base. The domes of the mosque is similar to the Kartalab Khan's Mosque at Old Dhaka.

The mosque has a small house type of building at the southern side. This is another great archaeological object from our Bangladesh.

Satoir Mosque is situated at Satoir bazar of Boalmari Thana. It was at Madhukhali Thana, and just visited the Deul of Mathurapur. Initially interested to visit the mosque, cause only way to reach there using local bus and it will take around 1-2 hours. It was actually 700 years of old mosque, but old one was totally renovated. There are lots of myth available using the mosque.

1) This mosque was built within one day by the order of Allah. 2) The four pillars of the mosque used to laugh and cry sometimes (The reason is the air passing, and it just make a different tone). 3) If you take the brick of the mosque at your house, no insect will come at our house.

প্রায় ৭০০ বছর পূর্বে এই মসজিদটি নির্মাণ করা হলেও পুরাতন মসজিদটিকে পুরোপুরি মেরামত করা হয়েছে। মসজিদটিকে ঘিরে প্রচুর লোককাহিনী রয়েছে যেমনঃ

১। একদিনেই এই মসজিদটি আল্লাহর হুকুমে নির্মাণ করা হয়।

২। মসজিদের চারটি পিলার একসময় হাসত এবং কাঁদত (প্রকৃতপক্ষে বায়ু চলাচলের কারনে ভিন্ন ধরনের শব্দের সৃষ্টি হত)।

৩। মসজিদের ইট আপনার ঘরে নিয়ে গেলে আপনার ঘরে কোন পোকামাকড় প্রবেশ করবে না।

Hoarshi Shahi Mosque (হোরশী শাহী মসজিদ) is actually known as Masjidpara Mosque (মসজিদপারা মসজিদ). But now a days no one knows this name anymore. Also, the local people pronounce Hoarshi as Horshi (হোরশী), more precisely Orshi (ওরশী), Hosshi (হসশি). People from this particular area pronounce Bengali words in different tone. They will find the bookish words from your mouth so much funny.

This mosque was built during 675-76AD, according to a Persian inscription that is affixed permanently over the central doorway. It was mainly a square shaped mosque having a single dome over the roof which covers almost the overall roof.

Department of Archaeology announced this as a protected monument of the country. As it is a small mosque, to accommodate more people inside the mosque premise, local people built an extension at the three sides of the mosque. The extension is having tin shade roof, and for that it’s pretty hard to locate the original mosque.

হোরশী শাহী মসজিদটি মসজিদপাড়া মসজিদ নামে অধিক পরিচিত। তবে আজকাল কেউ আর এই নামে মসজিদটিকে চেনেনা। তাঁরা মসজিদটিকে বিভিন্ন নামে ডেকে থাকে যেমনঃ হোরশী, ওরশী, হসসি ইত্যাদি। এই অঞ্চলের মানুষেরা বাংলা ভাষা ভিন্নভাবে উচ্চারণ করে থাকে তাই আপনার মুখে শুদ্ধ বাংলা শুনে তাঁরা হেসে দিতে পারে।

মসজিদের কেন্দ্রের ফটকের উপর পারস্য ভাষায় স্থাপিত শিলালিপি থেকে জানা যায় যে ৬৭৫ অথবা ৬৭৬ সালে মসজিদটি নির্মাণ করা হয়েছিল। বর্গক্ষেত্রাকার এই মসজিদের ছাদ জুড়ে একটিমাত্র গম্বুজ রয়েছে। প্রত্নতত্ত্ব বিভাগ মসজিদটিকে পুরাকীর্তি নিদর্শন হিসেবে ঘোষণা করেছে। ছোট এই মসজিদের ধারনক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধি করতে স্থানীয়রা মসজিদটি তিনদিক থেকে সম্প্রসারণ করেছে। মসজিদের সম্প্রসারিত অংশে টিনের ছাদ থাকায় মসজিদের প্রাচীন অংশটিকে সহজে দেখতে পাওয়া যায়।
