Brief

River Turag (তুরাগ নদী) is an upper tributary river of the Buriganga River, and flows beside the Dhaka. The condition of the river is not good during the dry season. It uses to be polluted severely, and the water seems black in most of the places with a pungent smell.

The river Turag uses to inundate it’s both bank during the rainy season. Though the river is a narrow one, but for this inundation it looks like a massive river during this time. Lot of fishermen use to catch fish from this river. But due to the pollution (from industry around) the count of fish decreasing day by day. That’s why those fishermen are struggling these days for fishing and migrating into other occupations for living.

Travel Tips

Actually you can explore the river in any season. This river is navigable throughout the year. But to avoid the polluted black water, best time will be from the starting of June to the end of October. You can even enjoy your swimming in the river that time.

Kocha River is a much larger river from the Southern part of our Bangladesh. It is created when the two famous rivers Modhumoti and the Shondha merged together near at the Hularhat (হুলারহাট). After converging the two rivers it got a new name Kocha (কচা নদী) and carrying this new name until it falls into the Bay of Bengal.

Most of the main rivers from our Southern Bangladesh are having bridge on them to ease the communication. But for some unknown reason, this river Kocha (কচা নদী) is not having any bridge. And the communication between the Bagerhat (বাগেরহাট) or Pirojpur (পিরোজপুর) and Barisal (বরিশাল) is hugely dependent upon this river. One has to wait for around 30 minutes to 2 hours to cross this river. Where as a bridge can reduce this duration into few minutes.

There is only one ferry that is dealing all the transportation. It will take around 15-20 minutes to cross the river through Ferry. GPS coordinate of the river and the ferry ghat is around this (22°34'35.51"N, 90° 1'55.49"E).

বাংলাদেশের দক্ষিন ভাগের একটি অন্যতম বড় নদীর নাম কচা নদী। হুলারহাটের কাছে জনপ্রিয় দুটি নদী মধুমতি নদী এবং সন্ধ্যা নদীর মিলনের ফলে এই নদীটির সৃষ্টি হয়। বঙ্গোপসাগরে মিলে যাওয়া পর্যন্ত এই নদীটি কচা নদী হিসেবেই বয়ে গিয়েছে।

যোগাযোগ ব্যবস্থার সুবিধার্থে দক্ষিন বাংলাদেশে অবস্থিত বেশীরভাগ প্রধান নদীর উপরেই সেতু রয়েছে। তবে, অজ্ঞাত কারনে কচা নদীর উপর কোন সেতু নেই যদিও বাগেরহাট অথবা পিরোজপুরের সাথে বরিশালের যোগাযোগ রক্ষার ক্ষেত্রে এই নদীটির ভুমিকা অপরিসীম। এই নদীটি অতিক্রমের জন্য কখনো কখনো আধ ঘণ্টা থেকে দুই ঘণ্টা পর্যন্ত অপেক্ষা করতে হয়। অথচ একটি সেতু থাকলে নদীটি অতিক্রম করতে মাত্র কয়েক মিনিট সময়ের প্রয়োজন হতো।

একটি মাত্র ফেরির মাধ্যমে কচা নদীতে সবধরনের পণ্য ও যাত্রী পরিবহন করা হয়ে থাকে। ফেরীতে করে এই নদী অতিক্রম করতে সময় লাগে ১৫ মিনিট থেকে ২০ মিনিট। কচা নদী এবং ফেরি ঘাটের জিপিএস অবস্থান হলো (২২°৩৪'৩৫.৫১"উ, ৯০°১'৫৫.৪৯"পু)।

Mighty river Meghna's branch is located eastward to the Narsingdi Sadar. It is used as a river ghat to move in various directions from Narsingdi District. If someone pays a visit there at the Ghat, he/she may observe a cluster of wood made engine boats awaiting for passengers. It is a place largely of gatherings all the day long. The launch terminal is just steps away from this Ghat.

There are some attractions around the river ghat that make people wondering this place at their leisure time. Some remarkable are Ansar Camp, Saw mill (wood market), Store house of Jute (built in British period) and a rice mill belonging a large brick made platform.

Every year in a certain time a large number of people gather around this place to watch traditional boat race ( নৌকা বাইচ) in live and during the vacation of Eid people move there with their friends & family to enjoy a charming view of Meghna River Branch.

Shomeswari River (সোমেশ্বরী নদী), one of the most beautiful rivers of Bangladesh, located at the Netrakona (নেত্রকোনা) District. During the Birisiri (বিরিশিরি) tour, any traveler must have to meet with this river. River is shallow during winter, but fierce during rainy season for its enormous flow.

The river is created from the streams from the Garo Hill (গারো পাহাড়) at the north of our country in India. Entered at Bangladesh through the Bijoypur (বিজয়পুর) of Netrakona. The bank of the river is a bit higher compare to others from Bangladesh.

Near to the Birishiri (বিরিশিরি) town, the river segregated into two. One is called old Shomeswari (সোমেশ্বরী নদী), which later shrunk in size. The other one (new one) later joined with river Kongsho (কংশ নদী) and keep that name Kongsho (কংশ নদী) until joined with river Shurma (সুরমা নদী).

During winter, the level of the water at Shomeswari River stays very low and anyone can cross the river by walking. During rainy season, you can hire engine boat and have some boat journey. It is recommended to visit the river during rainy season to enjoy the maximum beauty.

নেত্রকোনার বিরিশিরিতে আসলে আপনাকে অবশ্যই বাংলাদেশের অন্যতম সুন্দর এই নদীটি দেখতে হবে। শীতকালে সোমেশ্বরী নদীতে পানি কম থাকে তাই পায়ে হেটেই নদীটি পাড় হওয়া যায়। তবে, বর্ষাকালে এই নদীটির পানি অনেক বেড়ে যায় বিধায় নৌকা ছাড়া নদীটি পাড় হওয়া অসম্ভব। পানিতে পরিপূর্ণ এই নদীটির সৌন্দর্য উপভোগ করতে বর্ষাকালই এখানে আসার সবচেয়ে ভাল সময়। ভারতের গারো পাহাড় থেকে উৎপত্তি হয়ে সোমেশ্বরী নদীটি নেত্রকোনার বিজয়পুর দিয়ে বাংলাদেশে প্রবেশ করেছে। দেশের অন্যান্য নদীর তুলনায় এই নদীর পাড় খানিকটা উঁচু।

বিরিশিরির কাছে সোমেশ্বরী নদীটি দু ভাগ হয়েছে। একটি ভাগের নাম পুরাতন সোমেশ্বরী যেটি পরবর্তীতে সংকীর্ণ হয়ে গিয়েছে। অপর অংশটি কংশ নদীর সাথে মিলিত হয়ে কংশ নামধারন করে সুরমা নদীর সাথে মিলিত হয়েছে।

There are lots of marvelous natural and man-made objects to enjoy near the bank of Karnafuli River in the port city Chittagong. If you visit the Karnafuli River, there is a restaurant called Zoom, just beside the Chittagong-Kaptai road. This restaurant is monitored and managed by BDR. It’s a nice picnic spot. A lot of students from Rangamati go there as a study tour.

From the spot, you can enjoy the panoramic view over the river Karnafuli. This river is flowing nicely, always full with water, whether its dry season or rainy. Both side of the river has small Mountains, and which is rich with various kinds of deciduous trees. If you visit there in the dry season, you may find most of the trees having no leaves. Its different kinds of beauty. No sign of life, but it’s still wonderful to enjoy.

There are several boats at the river, you can have a boat ride using them. Those are a bit costly, but you know you have to spend some money when you want to enjoy that kind of such beauty.
